If I'm baptized, why do I need to go to the Lord's Supper? š¤āļø
We face three constant enemies:
š¦ Our sinful flesh ā the āold Adam.āĀ
š The world ā with its passions, schemes, and temptations we must endure.Ā
š¹ The devil ā relentlessly attacking our conscience.Ā
As a result, we constantly need all the gifts that the Lord gives us. š
So, why the Lord's Supper? Simply put, Jesus gave it to us š
The catechism points to two reasons: itās for you and for the forgiveness of sins.Ā
āWhat does baptism do?ā
> š§¼It forgives your sins, washes you clean daily, and gives you a new identity. āØ
> š±Baptism kills the old self and brings the new self to life.Ā
> šItās where Godās name is placed upon you.Ā
āWhat does the Lordās Supper do?ā
> šš·Jesus says, āReceive this. This is my body,ā given for your forgiveness.Ā
> šļø Where thereās forgiveness of sins, thereās also life and salvation.Ā
>Ā āØThis forgiveness frees us from guilt, shame, and dishonor.
The Lordās Supper is the only place we receive Christās body and blood. āļø
Baptism and the Lordās Supper arenāt exclusive; they work together for you. š¤
We also receive forgiveness from the preached word, Scripture, and confession and absolution. Thereās a reason for so many sources of forgiveness. šš
So perhaps the real question is: Why would the Lord have us go to His Supper?
He tells us: for the forgiveness of your sins. ā¤ļø
