If The Bill Fits

In our seventh episode, we discuss the For The People Act of 2021 (H.R. 1), introduced by Representative Sarbanes. This massive legislation addresses reforms in three areas: voting, campaign financing, and ethics. Among the many reforms, the legislation aims to promote increased access to voting and limit deceptive practices. In our sixth episode, we return to legislation with a discussion of Sheila Jackson Lee's Sabika Sheikh Firearms Licensing and Registration Act (H.R. 127). This bill would establish new requirements for firearm registration. Additionally, the bill would ban large-capacity magazines and some ammunition. In episode five, we stray away from discussing legislation to focus on the events of January 6, 2021, and the events that occurred in the days following the attack. We take a look at the impeachment and social media censorship, specifically addressing President Trump's recent Twitter Ban and the disappearance of Parler. We end the episode with our predictions for the 117th Congress with President Biden and Vice President Harris now in the White House.

In our fourth episode, we discuss Representative Jerry Nadler's Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and expungement Act of 2019 or The MORE Act (H.R. 3884). This bill would decriminalize marijuana by removing marijuana from the list of scheduled substances under the Controlled Substances Act. Additionally, this bill would expunge federal marijuana convictions and arrests. Lastly, it would provide funds, via tax, for social programs aimed at helping those communities most affected by the War on Drugs. In our third episode, we discuss Senator Rand Paul's Unplug the Internet Kill Switch Act of 2020 (S.4646). This bill would repeal war powers of the President that were originally introduced in 1934. We discuss the conflict that frequently appears in public policy between national security and civil liberties. In a continuation of our inaugural episode's discussion of the Supreme Court, we discuss in our second episode, Representative Ro Khanna's Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act of 2020 (H.R.824). This bill would amend Chapter 1 of title 28, United States Code, by adding term limits, senior justices, and a waiver of advice and consent authority.
