When Jesus says to his disciples, “If you love me, keep my commandments,” it would have been easy for them to get defensive. As we face these words today, our reaction is the same—I’ve got a lot of explaining to do if my actions are direct evidence of my love for God. But Jesus’ words aren’t calling our salvation into question, they’re showing us the way to a life of devotion.
