Back in the Soviet era, boatloads of day-trippers went to the island of Mudyug in the White Sea, to visit a museum. It was based around the remains of a prison camp - and one that is very different from the decaying Gulag camps scattered across north Russia and Siberia. For one thing, it was set up as far back as 1918. Even more remarkably, many jailors were not Russian. They were foreign troops. Bizarrely one French officer at the camp later created the world's most famous scent, Chanel No 5, inspired by his experiences in the Russian Arctic.

We all love to travel to different places, but not many of us like the stressful, banal process of the journey. This week, stories about delays—including a town known entirely for its speed trap, and a woman who comes up against bureaucratic nightmares every time she wants to go just a few blocks away.

Maar een overlever is nog geen held. Dat wordt duidelijk als niet hij, maar zijn kinderen in gevaar komen en de volwassen Ebel nergens te bekennen blijkt te zijn. På en stenstrand i Syrien sitter 21-årige Nawras och väntar på en bil som ska ta honom bort därifrån. Han är på flykt från sitt hem, för han är gay. Nawras håller sin sexuella läggning hemlig under hela sin uppväxt i Syrien. Släkten och det konservativa samhället han bor i accepterar inte homosexualitet. När han till slut bestämmer sig för att komma ut blir det farligt och Nawras bestämmer sig för att lämna sitt hemland. Våren 2014 träffar Alexandra Sandels Nawras i Beirut. Han är då på ett hjälpcenter för hbtq-personer som blivit hotade av extremister och förföljda av sina familjer på grund av deras sexuella läggning. Han har precis fått reda på att han blivit accepterad som kvotflykting i Sverige. En dokumentär om att vara sig själv - och priset som vissa tvingas betala för att vara det. Av Alexandra Sandels.

But at the same time, a lesser-known group of religious reformers were busy plotting a better future for Russia’s souls – and a new, more democratic, Orthodox Church, closer to the people.
