Since then, Abdi been trying to make a new life for himself in the US state of Maine, striving to become a 'real American'. He hopes to get educated and start a career, but the pressures of supporting a family in Mogadishu make this seem ever more difficult. And then there is the plan to have his brother Hassan join him. The state of Maine remains almost entirely white, and amid growing public fear of Muslims and immigration, Abdi's American dream runs into obstacles that he never expected. Ola föddes 1987. Mamman dog vid förlossningen och han behövde flaskmatas. När Stockholms Stadsteater 1988 sökte en apa till uppsättningen av Strindbergs Gustav III, fann de Ola på Ölands djurpark. Teatern behövde någon som kunde ta hand om schimpansen. Skådespelaren, Stephan Karlsén och hans fru, konstnären Louise Tillberg tog sig an den uppgiften. Ola kom att tillbringa ett knappt år tillsammans med deras familj. Livet med dem filmades, vilket resulterade i en serie barnprogram i TV. Louise Tillberg skrev dessutom 7 barnböcker, gjorde målningar och smycken, där motivet var Ola. När pjäsen spelats en sista gång kördes Ola tillbaka till Ölands djurpark. Nu var han en kändis som fick delta i olika slags jippon, bl.a. medverkade han i bio-filmer och satt i Robert Aschbergs TV-soffa. När djurparken en dag meddelade att schimpansen har sålts utomlands uppstod en konflikt som t.o.m. engagerade Sveriges Kung. I år fyller Ola 30 år, men det är osäkert om han är i livet.
