In today's Daily Fix:Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has seen a "live playthrough" of The Elder Scrolls 6, and she teased not only the "scale and grandeur," but also the game's possible subtitle. She censored it with eight asterisks, which sent the internet into a frenzy trying to decode what it could possibly mean — likely a location, as is the trend with previous entries like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In other news, Ghost of Yōtei is getting a new expansion as part of a Complete Edition. The new story content, Echoes of Sekigahara, will be accompanied by a new survival mode. • No Refunds After Aliens: Fireteam Elite Cloud Version Shut Down on Switch - IGN Daily Fix
In today's Daily Fix:The cloud servers for Aliens: Fireteam Elite have been shut down, and Switch players who purchased the game no longer have access to it. Cloud versions need to be stored onto servers in order to run, and when gamers "buy" a copy, they're only buying a license to access the game, not to own the game in perpetuity. The shutdown and lack of any kind of refund or discount for the sequel have subsequently shined more light on Sony's decision to discontinue manufacturing physical game discs in 2028. In other news, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PS5 and Steam saw a surge in sales and player counts since the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters over a week ago. And finally, No Man's Sky is celebrating 10 years, and a comeback story of sorts since the game's disasterous launch in 2016. A new free content update, Cosmos, was also announced.

  • Take-Two Defends GTA 6 Digital-Only Launch - IGN Daily Fix
In today's Daily Fix:GTA 6 publisher Take-Two has defended the move to launch the game digital-only. CEO Strauss Zelnick, however, did not rule out the possibility of a physical release in the future, but for now it just make more sense to release the game digitally, especially considering consumer buying habits. In related news, Nintendo reports that nearly 40% of their software sales are physical, proving yet again that the company and their die-hard fans go against the grain compared to the rest of the gaming industry. And finally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set a new domestic box office record, crossing $500 million in U.S. ticket sales in one week. The previous record-holder is Avengers: Endgame, which still holds the record for fastest to $1 billion ticket sales globally.

In other news, an advisory sticker has been spotted on PlayStation 5 console boxes, warning consumers that Sony will eventually stop selling games on physical media. Despite immense pushback from diehard fans, Sony doesn't seem to be changing course on their plan for an all-digital future. The developer/publisher reports that around 90% of its game sales come from digital, so their business will likely not be drastically affected by the end of games on disc.

In today's Daily Fix:Director James Cameron has signaled he's ready to move on from the Avatar franchise, even though Disney has reserved release dates for a potential Avatar 4 and 5. Outside of some documentaries and producing a few other projects for other filmmakers, Cameron has only made Avatar films for the past 20 years. The last one, Avatar: Fire and Ash, made around $1.4 billion at the global box office, but carried a hefty $300-400 million price tag, and made significantly less than the first two Avatars. Speaking at FF14 Fan Fest, Hamaguchi said it would be, quote, "a real shame for that culture to disappear," referring to physical media in games. He also said he's pushed for a physical release of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Revelations, but Square Enix has not made a final decision yet. In other news, Xbox Game Pass games for August have been announced, and the trial for Gears of War: E-Day leads the pack. And finally, Amazon and Dave Bautista are reportedly in talks for the star to replace Ryan Hurst in the Gears of War live-action series.
