There is a federal election scheduled for 18 May. Australians are among the too few in the world who have the privilege of democratic voting. It is important that Christian exercise their right to vote and to use their vote in a biblically wise manner. This discussion point is not about for whom you should vote, but how you should make your choices about candidates.

ANZAC Day was on 25 April. We usually devote Sunday Connect before ANZAC Day to remembering. This year Easter Sunday was just before ANZAC Day so our remembrance was held the Sunday after. In our discussion point we focused on how the First World War was influenced by and influenced religion, particularly Christianity and Islam. The world was changed because of the war and we still see that change today.

On Easter Sunday we asked the question, 'Which stone?' Which stone represents your faith? The stone of a whitewashed tomb that is filled with stench and dead bones, or the stone of the resurrection tomb that is empty because Jesus is alive?

Which crowd? Which crowd would you have been in? The crowd that cheered on Palm Sunday, or the crowd that jeered on Good Friday, or would you have been in both?

This discussion point completes a two-part series on how Christians ought to respond to street epistemology, an apparently innocent and innocuous approach to questioning belief.

Dr Rod introduces the concept of 'street epistemology', referring to Peter Boghossian who coined the term. He contrasted the definitions of faith typically used by atheists and pointed out that these definitions are not consistent with the definition used by solid Christian thinkers. The Christian faith is not blind faith by is faith based on evidence. Dr Rod discusses the evidence for faith.

Following Dr Rod's detailed discussion of tithing, this discussion point turns to the principles of generosity. He appeals to the book of Proverbs to find wisdom about generosity and notes that generosity and righteousness were 'two sides of the same coin' in Jewish thinking.

In this discussion point Dr Rod uses scripture to explain that we can make a transition from works-based (legalistic) giving to grace-based giving. He concludes by observing that the transition is a work of the Holy Spirit and that his own argument cannot persuade unless a person is open to the influence of the Holy Spirit. Rod reiterates the words of Jesus, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
