  • “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth".
    Taking Shortcuts
The other day, as I was returning from the airport, there was a traffic backup where two major freeways merge.  I decided that I did not want to wait in the traffic, and exited off of the freeway, looking for a shortcut.  The shortcut would have worked if it had not been for the two extremely long trains that crossed my path.  I would have been better off staying with the traffic and waiting patiently.
There are times in our own lives when we feel that we are in a traffic jam waiting for God to answer our prayers.  While we are waiting, we become impatient, and want to take a shortcut on our own.  A classic example in the Old Testament is Abraham, who got impatient waiting for God to give him his promised son, and took things into his own hands by having a son with Sarah’s maidservant, Hagar.  Abraham’s actions created more problems for him that he could have prevented if he had waited patiently for God.
When we take action into our own hands and follow our own will instead of God’s will, we often create a mess.  God tells us to wait on Him and not take things into our own hands.  Psalm 37:7 states, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”   Let us remember when we get impatient waiting on God to be careful of the shortcuts that we might want to take, and instead, wait patiently on Him, because He is faithful.
    Blessings to all,
    Chaplain Krupnik

  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. [email protected]
The Sole Balm book is available at www.abooksmart.com, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and by emailing the author at [email protected]
Do you ever feel that you are in the bottom one percent (1%) of living but want to be at the top? The Sole Balm, A Chaplain's Musings, provides practical, thought- provoking, spiritually-based guidance to address every-day situations. Having lost his father at the age of 16, and having served as a military and hospital chaplain for over 25 years, Chaplain Krupnik understands loss and pain, but he has also learned the value of hope. The Sole Balm unveils hope in small doses by providing opportunities, through real-life examples, to better understand yourself which, in turn, can help you be more successful in your relationship with God, yourself, and others. This book reveals the practicum of chaplaincy as it chronicles the experiences of Chaplain Krupnik as he laughs, cries, consoles, and encourages all. With journal pages following each article, The Sole Balm is a great resource or devotional tool for individual study or small groups. Elmon Krupnik married his wife, Lynn (now a practicing attorney) in 1981. They have four adult children and 14 grandchildren. Professor Krupnik teaches as an adjunct instructor of history, philosophy, and religion at military and community colleges. Chaplain Krupnik serves in a leadership capacity in his civilian, ministerial, and military positions. He holds a Ph.D. from Capella University, a M.Div. from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.A. from University of Minnesota.
