  • Simplicity leads to God. Purity embraces and enjoys him.
    Psalm 63:1-5
    1 You, God, are my God,
    earnestly I seek you;
    I thirst for you,
    my whole being longs for you,
    in a dry and parched land
    where there is no water.
    2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
    and beheld your power and your glory.
    3 Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
    4 I will praise you as long as I live,
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.
    5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
    with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

  • If our obedience leads to opposition, we can trust that God is setting the stage for an opportunity!
    Psalm 119:1-8
    1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
        who walk according to the law of the Lord.
    2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes
        and seek him with all their heart—
    3 they do no wrong
        but follow his ways.
    4 You have laid down precepts
        that are to be fully obeyed.
    5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
        in obeying your decrees!
    6 Then I would not be put to shame
        when I consider all your commands.
    7 I will praise you with an upright heart
        as I learn your righteous laws.
    8 I will obey your decrees;
        do not utterly forsake me.

  • The malice of man cannot harm one who God wishes to help.
    Psalm 73: 21-28
    21 When I became embittered
    and my innermost being was wounded,
    22 I was stupid and didn’t understand;
    I was an unthinking animal toward You.
    23 Yet I am always with You;
    You hold my right hand.
    24 You guide me with Your counsel,
    and afterward You will take me up in glory.
    25 Who do I have in heaven but You?
    And I desire nothing on earth but You.
    26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart,
    my portion forever.
    27 Those far from You will certainly perish;
    You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
    28 But as for me, God’s presence is my good.
    I have made the Lord God my refuge,
    so I can tell about all You do.

  • Blessed are the simple in heart for they shall enjoy peace and abundance.
    Psalm 84:1-12
    1 How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty! 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, LORD Almighty, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 8 Hear my prayer, LORD God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob. 9 Look on our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

  • In spite of myself, I still believe in hope.
    Psalm 1:1-6
    1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. 4 But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. 6 For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

  • You will break the bow if you always keep it bent.
    Psalm 44:1-18
    1 We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.  2 With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.  3 It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.  4 You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.  5Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes.  6 I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;  7 but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.  8 In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.  9 But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies. 10 You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us.  11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.  12 You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale.  13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.  14 You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.  15 I live in disgrace all day long, and my face is covered with shame  16 at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.  17 All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant.  18 Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path.

  • Grace brings all things back to God.
    Psalm 130:1-8
    1 Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; 2 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. 5 I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

  • Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
    Psalm 34:1-22
    1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. 2 I will glory in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. 3 Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. 8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. 9 Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. 10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. 11Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, 13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. 14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; 16 but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. 17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; 20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. 21 Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. 22 The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

  • God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.
    Psalm 62:1-12
    1 I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. 3 So many enemies against one man— all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. 4 They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude 5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. 8O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude 9 Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. 10 Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. 11 God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; 12 unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

  • Being honest with God leads to healing and wholeness.
    Psalm 1:1-6
    1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
