  • The one who sows righteousness gets a true reward.
    Psalm 51:1-19
    1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.  2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.  4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.  5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.  6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.  7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.  8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.  10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.  13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.  14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.  15 Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.  16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.  17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.  18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.  19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

  • Relying on God opens me to new possibilities.
    Psalm 104:1-9
    1 Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.  2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent  3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.  4 He makes winds his messengers,flames of fire his servants.  5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.  6 You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.  7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; 8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.  9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.

  • If you love the cross even the bitterness in life is sweet.
    Psalm 37:1-11
    1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
        or be envious of those who do wrong;
    2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
        like green plants they will soon die away.
    3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
        dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
    4 Take delight in the Lord,
        and he will give you the desires of your heart.
    5 Commit your way to the Lord;
        trust in him and he will do this:
    6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
        your vindication like the noonday sun.
    7 Be still before the Lord
        and wait patiently for him;
    do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
        when they carry out their wicked schemes.
    8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
        do not fret—it leads only to evil.
    9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
        but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
    10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
        though you look for them, they will not be found.
    11 But the meek will inherit the land
        and enjoy peace and prosperity.

  • We need to have friction in life to make it enjoyable.
    Hebrews 10:22
    22 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
    Romans 8:1
    1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
    Psalm 103:12
    12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

  • Encouragement is seeing the potential in others and what can be achieved.
    Psalm 73:21-28
    21 When I became embittered
    and my innermost being was wounded,
    22 I was stupid and didn’t understand;
    I was an unthinking animal toward You.
    23 Yet I am always with You;
    You hold my right hand.
    24 You guide me with Your counsel,
    and afterward You will take me up in glory.
    25 Who do I have in heaven but You?
    And I desire nothing on earth but You.
    26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart,
    my portion forever.
    27 Those far from You will certainly perish;
    You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
    28 But as for me, God’s presence is my good.
    I have made the Lord God my refuge,
    so I can tell about all You do.

  • Be strong and wait on the Lord!
    Psalm 111:1-10
    1 Praise the LORD.I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. 3Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. 5 He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. 6 He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations. 7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. 8 They are established for ever and ever, enacted in faithfulness and uprightness. 9 He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever— holy and awesome is his name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

  • Being lulled into a false sense of security is worse than going through the process of suffering.
    Psalm 55:1-10
    1 Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; 2 hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught 3 because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked; for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger. 4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. 5 Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. 6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. 7 I would flee far away and stay in the desert; 8 I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.” 9 Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it.

  • I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength.
    Psalm 27:4-14
    4 One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. 7 Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. 13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

  • Weakness is our opportunity to experience God's power firsthand.
    Psalm 119:1-8
    1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
        who walk according to the law of the Lord.
    2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes
        and seek him with all their heart—
    3 they do no wrong
        but follow his ways.
    4 You have laid down precepts
        that are to be fully obeyed.
    5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
        in obeying your decrees!
    6 Then I would not be put to shame
        when I consider all your commands.
    7 I will praise you with an upright heart
        as I learn your righteous laws.
    8 I will obey your decrees;
        do not utterly forsake me.
