Acid Mondays, the duo of Negghead and Lex Wolf known for their releases on 2020 Vision, Compost, Magnetic and Circus Recordings, bring us the 7th instalment of the Gangstercast. The duo state they were formed somewhere in the 5th dimension and were brought together by their "love for fat beats, inter dimensional travel & cups of tea." With more of those fat beats coming throughout 2013 for Sascha Dive’s Deep Vibes label, Illusion Recordings and Nilla, it's clear to see why they're picking up plays from Laurent Garnier, Tobi Neumann, Ricardo Villalobos, Dan Ghenacia, Yousef, Sebo K and DJ Sneak.
So, onto their Gangstercast! The hour-long mix includes Acid Mondays' latest productions and tracks from artists they have other links with. The mix sums up exactly what the House Gangster sound means to them: "Fat beats, raw grooves that are designed for the dancefloor but never forgetting the party!" It's clear House music is central to everything they do: "It is a source of life, a feeling, a reflection of time!" - a vibe we're most definitely down with. While listening to the mix look out for the Acid Mondays remix of S-men which they regard as one of their all time best tracks and secret weapons, and a nice nod to House Gangster pioneer DJ Sneak on the last track.
Mark Farina, a true pioneer and long standing House Gangster is in the hot seat for episode 6 of the Gangstercast and we're extremely proud to have him on-board. Mark's mixes are the stuff of legend and have seen him touring the globe as one of Chicago's best loved musical exports for many years. Now based in San Francisco, Chicago still provides his roots to the House Gangster sound, "For me, the House Gangster movement means capturing the spirit of the days when there were true gangsters listening to house in chicago in the late eighties. White, latino, black...the only sound of the underground in the streets was house music. The sound has a certain rawness, toughness, trackyness and attitude that combines into a certain style of house."
Regarding his Gangstercast, Mark says the tracks are, "Selected goodies from my arsenal of new underground jammies. No special planning though. Pick a starting point and go from there, with just a vibe in mind to fit this Gangstercast."
And his view on house music, you may just have heard it before: "In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared, "Let there be HOUSE!" and house music was born."
Brazilian duo Anhanguera step up for episode 5 of the Gangstercast. Dudu Palandre and Décio Deep have been flying the flag for underground house music in Brazil since 2004 when they started to appear on labels including Robsoul, Oomph, Tango, Minority and their own Maracuja. They are now well established globally and tour with their self-styled "dirty, sexy, fat and groovy" sound.
The duo say, "House music is our religion. We have always been loyal to house music, no matter what the fashion is", an ethos we respect to the full! Their exclusive mix for the Gangstercast was recorded without any prior planning: "We started mixing and choosing the tracks to build the right flow as if we were playing live. We tried to mix it all from deep to tech tracks, new and old stuff because the good house music is timeless and styleless."
When we do new episodes of the Gangstercast we like to do it proper, so for episode 4 we have one of the biggest characters in House music, Phil Weeks, and he's laid down no less than THREE HOURS of bumpin' gangster beats exclusively for the podcast. The mix is a live recording from 'Living Room' in Lugano, Switzerland, and presents the most raw taste of Phil behind the decks - funky, jacking and bumping grooves straight from the Chicago school of House.
When asked what House music means to Phil, his answer is simple: "I gave my life to this music since 1996, that should be enough said." On the House Gangster movement he adds: "For me, it was a 100% positive move from DJ Sneak to create something to bring back motivation for all of us, the House lovers. It was created at a point when we were all feeling House music was slowing down and I was starting myself to get tired of all this new music called Electro, Minimal, whatever. House Gangsters have nothing to do with violence or gangster bad boys, it's just about fighting for the music we love."
Since 2000 Phil Weeks has released his unique brand of House music on some of the world’s leading underground labels including 2020 Vision, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Magnetic, Detour, Adult Only and his own highly regarded Robsoul Recordings, which is responsible for the majority of his original output. Robsoul has been responsible for his three critically acclaimed albums - 'Yeah I Like That', 'Love Affair' and 'Raw Instrumental’ - and the label has released music by DJ Sneak, DJ W!LD, Chris Carrier, Joss Moog, JT Donaldson and countless others … all House Gangsters to the core!
Ramon Tapia provides episode 3 of the Gangstercast - his mix is an eclectic 70 minute journey that perfectly represents his sound as a DJ covering everything from laidback funky jams to full on jacking floor shakers.
Ramon's heritage is equally eclectic - the son of a Dutch woman and a (literally) revolutionary Chilean musician, who moved to the Belgian techno capital of Antwerp. The mix of cultures shaped Ramon's sound and his music has been snapped up by some of the finest record labels around - Remote Area, Intacto, Gem, Great Stuff, Turbo and many more. He has also established his own labels Say What? Recordings and Aella Music and can also list remixes of Paul Weller, Armand Van Helden, Marc Romboy and DJ Sneak, among others, in his discography.
Ramon has a profound love for house music, just as all true House Gangsters do - he says "House made me into what I am, so it's been like a father and a mother but in a musical way." In Ramon's words, the House Gangster movement is all about "one love, one family" and we can't argue with that!

The second instalment of the GANGSTERCAST comes from Russian House music star Tripmastaz. An influential player in House circles since the late 90's, his music can be found on top labels including Be As One, Moon Harbour, Cecille, Magnetic and his own label Plant 74 - all solid proponents of the HOUSE GANGSTER culture. Coming from St. Petersburg in Russia, Tripmastaz highlights that the HOUSE GANGSTER ethos is firmly a global movement and his 1 hour 25 minute mix of snapping, body-jacking underground beats perfectly represents the raw House music spirit that the GANGSTERCAST represents.
The tracks in the mix were carefully selected over a two day period and mixed on two Technics 1200 turntables: "This mix is fully represents me as an artist - its a mixture between underground groovy house and techno with booty jacking factor and even some electronica biz at the end of it. The House Gangster sound is a gutter, raw, funky and groovy sound with hip-hop attitude."

Chief House Gangster DJ Sneak provides episode 01 of The GANGSTERCAST, the new podcast series from the 'I'M A HOUSE GANGSTER' collective. Sneak has been at the forefront of this movement since it's very beginning and it is his passion and drive to keep House music alive that has given him the idea to create a podcast series where the talents and sounds of House Gangsters from around the world can be heard. Sneak believes that the spirit of House music will never be lost because there are House Gangsters out there, true House music lovers who care and respect the sound. This series of mixes will showcase the talents of many of these individuals.
The first mix of this series features 2 hours of solid, raw, underground, jacking House beats from the master and pioneer of the genre. As we've come to expect from Sneak, the mix is packed with killers; there are no fillers in sight. Look out for more from the GANGSTERCAST very soon.
