Welcome to the View from the Top podcast, Season 2. Today, Aaron Walker discusses I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. We will go on a journey with Aaron while he is earning his pilot's license. Getting Stuck
Aaron wanted to learn how to fly and started lessons. They started to do full power stalls which causes it to break left. Aaron let go of the throttle and grabbed the yoke which caused the plane to stall. His instructor told him not to let go but Aaron did on the next stall. At this point the plane quits and Aaron was stuck. The airplane would not start; the instructor had cut the fuel selector switch off to prove a point. They ended up trying to make an emergency landing on a golf course but the instructor pointed it straight done and ended up getting it started.
"I said that thing would have worked a lot better if I hadn't have been stuck and you would have told me what to do before we did the full power stalls I wouldn't have been quite as nervous." - Aaron Walker
4 Steps to Getting Yourself Unstuck
- When we get stuck we need better instruction- surround yourself with people who have the answers. "Get trusted advisors around you; be vulnerable, be transparent, be willing to say I don't know and that will help you get unstuck." - Aaron Walker
- We try to get back where we were at. Find a place that is even better. Strive to go forward and not back. Stop comparisons and change your mindset.
- Don't compare yourself to your colleagues, friends or family. You will always feel like you don't measure up if you continue to compare yourself. Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle or end. You will remain stuck.
- "You're trying to prove something to somebody; maybe it's yourself, maybe it's your dad, maybe it's a brother, maybe it's somebody you need to prove yourself to. It gets you stuck. Stop doing that. You don't have to prove yourself to anyone." - Aaron Walker
