Guest Artists in Discussion with /// Gastkünstler im Gespräch mit Ludger Brümmer

Bei der ersten IMA | lab-Ausgabe des Jahres 2014 stellt sich der Klangkünstler und Komponist Gerriet K. Sharma vor. Der derzeitige Gastkünstler am ZKM | Institut für Musik und Akustik setzt sich mit weiterführenden Studien zu der Raum-Klangkomposition „grafik unten“ auseinander

Gerriet K. Sharma beschäftigt sich in seiner Arbeit mit der klangkünstlerischen Komposition und Organisation von Klang. Dabei widmet er sich im Besonderen der Anordnung und Bewegung von akustischen Signalen im Raum. Für ihn ist die Zusammenführung von Klang und Raum eine Überwindung der Grenzen zwischen bildender Kunst und Musik, wobei besonders die Techniken der 3D-Klangprojektion die Möglichkeit der Raum-Klangkomposition und damit der dreidimensionalen Klangskulptur bieten. Eine Utopie einer nahezu materielosen Klangskulptur, die sich mit dem Ohr ‚körperlich’ begreifen lässt.

Sein zweites Arbeitsfeld umfasst die radiophone Klangkomposition.

Gerriet K. Sharma wurde 1974 in Bonn geboren und lebt in Köln und Graz. Er studierte Rechtswissenschaften in Bonn und London (1. u. 2. Staatsexamen) mit dem Schwerpunkt Neue Medien und Kommunikation. Von 2004 bis 2006 folgte ein Postgraduiertenstudium im Fachbereich Medienkunst an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (Diplom Mediale Künste). Von 2008 bis 2011 studierte er Elektroakustische Komposition und Computermusik am Institut für Elektronische Musik und Akustik der Kunstuniversität Graz (Master of Arts). Derzeit ist er Doktorand der künstlerische Doktoratsschule der Kunstuniversität Graz.

IMA | lab No. 22: Gerriet K. Sharma

Sound artist and composer Gerriet K. Sharma will be introducing himself at the first IMA | lab edition of 2014. The current guest artist at the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics will be continuing to carry out his investigations on the spatial sound composition “grafik unten [graphic below]”.

Gerriet K. Sharma focusses on sound art composition and the organization of sound. His work centers, above all, on the arrangement and movement of acoustic signals in space. For Sharma, the merging of sound and space represents an overcoming of the boundaries between fine art and music, whereby especially 3D sound project techniques offer possibilities for space sound compositions and, consequently, three-dimensional sound tracks. A utopia of a virtually immaterial sound sculpture, which can be ‘physically’ grasped by the ear.

A second field of work covers the radiophone sound composition.

Gerriet K. Sharma was born 1974 in Bonn, and lives and works in Cologne and Graz. He studied law in Bonn and London specializing in new media and communication, and works occasionally in the department for software development and computer languages at the Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung [Societey for Mathematics and Data Processing] – today the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Sankt Augustin – as well in the future department of Ford, Cologne. From 2004 to 2006 he pursued postgraduate studies in media art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, which he completed with a diploma in audio-visual media. He studied electroacoustic composition and computer music at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
