Gastkünstler im Gespräch mit /// Guest Artists in Discussion with Ludger Brümmer
Christoph Illing lebt in Berlin, ist Klangkünstler, Programmierer, Komponist für elektronische und elektroakustische Musik und ist im April 2014 zu Gast am ZKM | Institut für Musik und Akustik. Bei der Reihe IMA | lab wird er im Gespräch mit Ludger Brümmer seine aktuellen Projekte vorstellen. Es handelt sich dabei um sogenannte „Brain Decompositions“ − audifizierte Gehirnströme − die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Neurowissenschaftler Titus von der Malsburg entstehen und Grundlage seiner Arbeit sind.
Illing studierte bei Holger Schulze und Martin Super Sound Studies/Akustische Kommunikation an der Universität der Künste (UdK) in Berlin. Dort entwickelte er sein Interesse für experimentelle Notation und Sprachphilosophie als Grundlage seiner künstlerischen Arbeit. Ein psychologisches Basistraining der Focusing-Methode nach Eugene T. Gendlin im Focusing Zentrum Karlsruhe vertiefte seine sprachphilosophischen Grundlagen. Die Klänge für die „Brain Decompositions“ entstanden aus Experimenten zur Grundlagenforschung sprachlicher Verarbeitung im Gehirn, die von Titus von der Malsburg durchgeführt wurden.
Illing veröffentlichte einige Notationen in den Anthologien „Notations 21“ (USA) und „The Dark Would“ (GB).
In Zusammenarbeit mit der Sängerin Ulrike Sowodniok entstanden Kompositionen und Aufführungen zur Beziehung zwischen Klang und Bedeutung. Für die Komposition und Klanggestaltung für Lisa Seidel-Kukuk und ihr Stück „Sensibles Chaos“ erhielten sie den Preis für das beste szenische und technische Konzept, sowie dessen Realisation beim Theaterfestival Erbin 2011. Wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen zu Klang und Wahrnehmung sind bei dem transcript-Verlag erschienen.

Resident in Berlin, sound artists, programmer, and composer of electro-acoustic music, Christoph Illing is scheduled to be guest at the ZKM | Institute of Music and Acoustics in April 2014. In discussion with Ludger Brümmer, he will be presenting his most recent projects as part of the IMA | lab Series. Forming the basis of his work, these involve so-called "brain decompositions" − audited brain waves − produced in collaboration with neuroscientist, Titus von der Malsburg.
Illing studied sound studies/acoustic communication under Holger Schulze and Martin Supper at the Berlin University of Arts (UdK). At the UdK, he developed his interests in experimental notation and language philosophy which constitutes the foundation for his artistic work. He deepened his foundations in language-philosophy at the Focusing Center Karlsruhe by way of psychological basis training in the focusing method developed by Eugene T. Gendlin. The sounds for "brain decompositions" resulted from experiments in pure theory in linguistic processing in the brain as carried out by Titus von der Malsburg.
Illing published several notations in the anthologies "Notations 21" (USA), and "The Dark Would" (GB).
He produced compositions and performances on the relationship between sound and meaning in collaboration with the singer Ulrike Sowodniok. For the composition and sound design for Lisa Seidel-Kukuk, and her piece "Sensibles Chaos" they received the award for best scenic and technical concept and presentation at the Erbil Theater Festival 2011. Various scientific publications on sound and perception are published by transcript-Verlag.
