On March 18, 1978, Billy was called to a contact by Quetzal. A few days before the date in question, he borrowed my camera, a Konica with a telephoto lens, and had the operating instructions explained to him in detail. He had told me that, among other things, he wanted to photograph the spring flowers at the center, which he did. Of course, I was happy to leave my camera to him, knowing that it was in good, trustworthy hands.
Some time later, he handed my property back to me, and shortly afterwards we all found out what he had really needed the camera for: he had let Quetzal take him into the future in his ship, and there he had taken impressive and shocking pictures of a San Francisco that had been completely destroyed by an earthquake. The only building still standing and somewhat intact was the pyramid-shaped America Building, whose distinctive silhouette is known worldwide. He "shot" many different pictures, not only of the destroyed city but also of the faults of the Andreas Graben, of destroyed country roads, highways, and bridges. These evocative and memorable images were examined and studied very closely by us, especially by Engelbert, Herbert, and me.
Shortly afterwards, Kurt Stadlin, who had also glimpsed the "Pictures from the Future," took me aside and showed me a GEO magazine from September 1977. In the issue in question, the magazine had depicted so-called catastrophe images, which were very fashionable at the time. Kurt now claimed that the photos he had seen of Billy could only have been taken from this magazine because they matched the photos exactly. I was very
