He has worked on European Commission projects studying how to analyze and evaluate citizen-science impacts.

Luigi compares two citizen-science models: 

1. Crisis-driven such as Japan’s Safecast (led by Pieter Franken, interviewed here) —which was rapidly created after the Fukushima incident to crowdsource high-quality radiation measurements. 

2. African initiatives that respond to slower, structural environmental changes and focus on community empowerment rather than short-term emergencies.

Nicholas Omonuk has done much work to raise awareness and build climate justice. He created End Fossil Occupy Uganda, a local climate movement demanding a phase-out of fossil fuels. Aidan says reinvention—breaking apart existing identities, jobs, or business models and recombining them—is harder but more necessary than traditional innovation, especially in a world where the previous “four years of college, forty years in one company” model is not longer relevant.

End Plastic Pollution is a waste management organization that started in Uganda and focuses on the intersection between people, the environment, and the economy. (More here: https://imaginize.world/end-plastic-pollution-with-godfrey-ssekiziyivu/)

The organization is implementing a zero waste model for local communities and has developed the Kollect app, a technological platform designed to transform how waste is managed.
The Kollect app includes recyclers, collectors, waste generators, and green earth campaigners, allowing users to submit waste requests and enabling nearby collectors to pick up materials. The app uses cryptocurrency for payments to facilitate worldwide integration. When a user submits waste, a nearby collector is notified and picks it up; the collector then notifies recyclers with accumulated waste volumes, creating a circular economy model.
