  • Tips & Professional Advisory for Residency Applications with Dr. Varun Agrawal

Dr Varun Agrawal who goes by the name Dr Ed is a nephrologist and internist in a university hospital in Burlington VT where besides clinical practice, he is actively involved in medical education of the students, residents and fellows.

Being an international medical graduate, he understands the special challenges that IMGs face in their transition to a new work culture in the US.

He started Ed4MedUS.com in the fall of 2019, an online educational consultancy site to help guide medical graduates in their journey to pursue a US medical residency. He focuses on conducting online practice interviews for applicants preparing for the residency interview and has received very positive feedback on how useful these practice interviews have been when compared to the real interview with a program director or faculty.

He is expanding his services this year by helping edit and review the personal statements and resume that are essential to apply to residency programs. He runs a very active Facebook page and group where he posts daily content on the news and events concerning residency application and the match.

More than 1000 members follow him in the facebook group and more choose to join each day. He is very involved in educational research especially burnout and emotional well-being in graduate medical education.

He has written original research papers, review papers, case reports, editorials, textbook chapters and has been invited to present talks at national and internationally acclaimed conferences.

  • COVID-19 / Novel Corona Virus infection - I hope it goes "VIRAL."
This episode is a bonus, unique and different episode, concentrated in the public interest about this topic, with the purpose of enlightening everyone about the disease and the current situation. I can speak with authority about how I see the case from my perspective, but also how we are living it day by day.   I found the absolute need to provide an unbiased, objective summary about COVID-19, from its suspected origins, the virology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, treatment, and future expectations as an Emergency Physician, a healthcare provider, in the frontlines of the infection in the USA.    My duty as a Doctor is to educate my community, not only the Medical providers but also the lay public regarding the current pandemic. It shall pass, and we will beat it, we have to have social awareness, and stop being selfish, we must care about the commonwealth and public safety when it's about preventing the propagation of this virulent condition.    Alonso Osorio,MD. FAAEM, FAAFP, FACEP

  • Perseverance, Grit and Overcoming adversities, how to accomplish your dream!
Dr. Lopez is a PGY-1 Resident in Emergency Program at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in New York, and today he brings the powerful message of conviction and commitment. The son of an Immigrant becomes the first person in the family to obtain a college education, followed by going to medical school and overcoming the difficulties of a highly competitive educational system in the USA when trying to make it into the "selective few" that will be granted access to Graduate and Postgraduate education.    He saw no barriers, no limits and never listened to negative people, he pushed through and went to Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, in Mexico, to obtain his medical degree. His path is remarkably full of successes, but they did not come the easy way, he had to put in the time, money and effort, along with support from his social network to persevere and accomplish every dream and goal that he had a plan for himself and the future.    Today, he looks back, is a powerful and motivating conversation, on his past. He is almost there, and within the next 3 years, he will become a Board Certified Residency Trained Emergency Physician that is passionate about patients, and people, using his impressive bilingual skills and sensitivity for cultural diversity. I got goose-bumps while chatting with him and I hope you guys do as well. Enjoy! It cannot get better than this. Follow me at http://www.FMG-IMGCast.com and email me at [email protected]. • "A Mexican Adventure" --- Dr. Jonathan Rios.
Jonathan Rios is currently a Medical Student at the University of Monterrey, México and early during his career, he realized that the cost of medical education in the US was an unnecessary burden for the future and redirected his efforts by attending Medical school internationally & considered to have some remarkable savings in school loans and at the same time entertaining great quality on his educational needs.    After extensive reflection he headed out “south of the border” to accomplish his dream of becoming a Doctor and soon, he will be back in the US to embark on specialty training, hopefully in the residency of his choice: Emergency Medicine.   Our future physician guest has a great story behind to share and opens us to the consideration of an “alternative pathway” to American Undergraduate PreMed Students to go into another country to accomplish their goals.   His experience in Mexico has been one to remember, and he cannot wait to see what the next year of his internship and rural service will be like. Also, He is delineating the timing of his schedule to take on Step 1 & 2 and to make that to coordinate with his shifts and clinical rotations in the continental US.
