In this week's session Pastor LeeWood works through John's test of Love found in 2:7-11. Here we will find that John's command for us to love is old because it is ancient, but it is also new because Jesus' example makes it so. We will see though this brief section that John expects our love to be more evident in our lives than what we typically think of being seen.

In week three of our 1 John series Pastor LeeWood looks at 2:3-6. By first introducing the three tests we are oriented to the importance of this opening test. From there LeeWood discusses the section in three parts.

In the second week of our series covering 1 John Pastor LeeWood walks us trough the final part of chapter 1, and the first two verses of chapter 2. In this session we look at how John summarizes the Apostolic Message, then three separate denials concerning sin, John's second purpose of writing, and finally end on how propitiation works.

In this session Pastor LeeWood gives us all a leg up for our Spring 2024 Equipping Institute Series on 1 John that starts on January 24th. LeeWood walks us through his goals for teaching, what will be different about this series, how to prepare for each week, and then finally rounds out some introductory material for 1 John.

In the opening study of 1 John, Pastor LeeWood walks us through the Prologue in verses 1-4 of chapter 1. In this session LeeWood talks about why precision matters in asking questions like "who is we?" LeeWood emphasized the focus on sensory evidence, then broke down the section into three portions.

In the final week of our Storyline series Pastor LeeWood finally brings us to the opening of the New Testament. By looking at the action of Antiochus Epiphanes and the subsequent Maccabean Revolt we see that the stage was set for Israel to earn their freedom, but not for long. Soon after the Hasmonean dynasty was established the Romans were looming, and eventually they take over the nation. The big takeaway from this session is that every major tension that we encounter in the New Testament is firmly established by the time we meet John the Baptist.

In the penultimate session of our Storyline series Pastor LeeWood picks up with the decline of the Persian Empire and ends with the Romans looming over the horizon. In this session we learn about how Alexander the Great literally spreads the language that will eventually be employed for the composition of the New Testament.

In the 11th week of our series Pastor LeeWood discusses the aftermath of the division of the united monarchy of Israel. By previewing where Israel in the North with Jeroboam leading them and Judah in the South with Rehoboam as king are heading, we get a good survey of what lies ahead for each nation. LeeWood then introduces the origins of the Assyrians, and previews the role they will play in the near future of our narrative.
