John 15:1-8 "Rooted in Him"

As we begin a new 4-part series, we address the challenge that comes after salvation. Jesus teaches that we are branches on Jesus, the Vine, and we must draw life from Him. As we do, we will begin to bear the fruit of the Spirit. We grow as we should if we let Him prune us and feed us, not resting on our own resources. Colossians 3:16; Matthew 6 " The Word and Prayer"

How do we "abide in Him"? The Word is how we inhale the life of God. God's Word changes us from the inside out. It's not just information, but also transformation. Prayer is how we exhale our dependence upon Him. The Lord's Prayer teaches us how to abide. Abiding is a daily rhythm, not a weekly event.

Romans 8:12-17 "Adoption to the Family"

Our commitment to Christ moves us from spiritual death to spiritual life. Our position is then sonship by adoption into His family. We should then make progress in controlling the flesh and following the Spirit. The proof of our adoption occurs as we see the presence and fruit of the Spirit in our life. As part of His family, we have the promise of being heirs of Christ's sufferings and eventual glory.

Ephesians 2:1-10 "From Death to Life"

Being born from above means to spiritually move from death to life. We are constantly battling the world, the Devil, and our flesh, but our decision to accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord enables us to experience God's mercy, God's love, and God's grace. We need to then walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh.

John 3:1-8 "You Must Be Born Again"

After seeing the rescue of Israel in the sermon series on Exodus, we look at how this redemption becomes ours. This is revealed in the conversation between Jesus and a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Jesus makes it clear that religion cannot produce life, that we must be born again from above, and that the Holy Spirit brings new life.

Exodus 15-17

As we conclude the sermon series on the Book of Exodus, we find the Israelites rejoicing and worshipping God for their deliverance from captivity in Egypt. However, they soon began to complain about being hungry and thirsty, so God provides them with daily manna, quails and water. The glory of the Lord is revealed. Nevertheless, their complaining continues off and on for the rest of their journey. Complaining dishonors God since it shows mistrust. Complaining distracts us from receiving the blessings and purpose that God has for our lives.

Exodus 15:1-18

When the Israelites were delivered from the Egyptian army at the Red Sea, they sang a song of praise, worship and thanksgiving. They were still not in the best of conditions, but they worshipped God. This reminds us of our responsibility to worship the Lord, regardless of our circumstances. Make the decision - "I will sing". Then sing unto the Lord. He is always worthy of our praise and worship, for He has redeemed us from the captivity of sin and death.

Exodus 13 - 14

Once Pharaoh had allowed the Israelites to leave, God encourages them to remember their deliverance from slavery by consecrating the day and continuing to celebrate their redemption. To experience true freedom, they needed to give their first fruits to Him. We see that God offsets our weakness with His strength as He divides the Red Sea so they could cross, then destroys the Egyptian soldiers with that same water. The lesson is that we may know what we see, but God knows and sees everything.

Exodus 11 -12

Pharaoh continues to reject God's call to let His people leave Egypt, despite the many plagues. Finally, God declares that every firstborn in the land was to die. Only those who covered their doorposts with the blood of a sacrificed lamb would be spared. It foreshadowed the blood shed by Jesus to cover the sins of all who believed it by faith. The blood had to be trusted, applied and believed. Salvation has always required faith. The holiness of God demands that sin be dealt with. You cannot save yourself. Trust the Lamb.
