About this episode:
What better way to open a new season than with the woman who started it all. In this episode Olaoluwa sits down with her mother, Dr. Oloruntoyin Bakare, for a conversation that is equal parts personal, theological, and deeply honest. Dr. Oloruntoyin Bakare opens up about her journey from a Muslim family background to Christianity, how a Catholic primary school planted the seed of faith that her father, in an extraordinary act of acceptance, watered and supported. From nearly becoming a nun to preaching for a decade before receiving a divine call to full-time ministry in 2001, her story is a testament to what it looks like when purpose and preparation meet.
They dive into raising children in ministry, the pressure placed on pastor's kids to be perfect, and the biblical mandate of stewarding your home while stewarding your calling. Dr. Bakare does not mince words: you can be busy for God and still be guilty. They also get honest about navigating church hurt, when to stay and when to leave, and in one of the most quietly powerful moments of the episode, Dr. Bakare shares what it meant to wait on God for 20 years for the fruit of the womb, preaching faith publicly while holding her own privately.
This one closes with 1 Corinthians 15 vs. 58 - “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain.”
