We are celebrating the Finale of Season 1 with a first. This is the very first time that Regina Larko, who you usually know as the host of the Podcast, will sit in the hot seat as Amanda Williams, who has recently joined Regina at #impact Podcast, asks her why she started this Podcast.
You will hear about technical failures, dreaming big and embarrassing setbacks when recording Season 1.
Regina recorded on rooftops, at events, in fashion studios, at a former British army base, in offices, and even in – spoiler alert – elevators! We’ll save that elevator moment for Season 2. So come back for more and subscribe here.
Find out what motivated Regina to take that first step to start this Podcast, how a little peer pressure contributed to her pressing that scary launch button, and what she’s excited about for Season 2 and beyond.
“5 years from now I want every person on this earth to know that they have a place where they can go to and feel at home and they don’t need to feel lonely in their change making journey but that there will be platform and a community where they can discuss and grow together and multiply their impact,” Regina shares.
You will also find out which was her most personally impactful moment so far and why she will not give up on getting Coldplay in front of the microphone as this letter proves.
This show only exists because of the brilliant guests featured on this Podcast. Thank you all for making Season 1 so moving, fun and inspiring.

  • #21: These 7 and 9-year-old girls know how to make an impact.
Do you remember what dreams you had when you were between seven and nine years old and how your days looked?

Today you meet kids that are just like any other children. They love to play, they are curious to learn, but there is something about them that makes them very special.
They step up to give back by organising fundraising events and collaborating with charities like Cary’s Cancer Fund,

Hong Kong Cancer Fund, The Children’s Cancer Foundation, Rett’s Roost, The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Mothers Choice.
In this episode, you meet Jeorge (9yr) and Samantha (7yr) Petris who co-founded the Little Philanthropist, two young girls with a big desire to help others.
After a family friend was diagnosed with cancer, they decided to start fundraising to allow their friend to buy medication that was not supported by the Hong Kong government.
This was just the starting point.

Their project-based organisation Little Philanthropist empowers children to help their local community.
The organisation is children-led, involving the children every step of the way. From brainstorming ideas for causes they want to support, researching and learning about the charities that work in the areas they are interested in, the children take charge. They get involved in organising fundraising and community-building events like a recent Toy Sale & Charity Drive that brought together 69 volunteers, 43 of them being children.
For their first Toy Sale Fundraiser, they set ambitious goals and smashed them.
Leading up to the event, the kids approached several sponsors to donate toys. They aimed to collect 1000 toys and get at least 200 people to participate. They exceeded their goals by far with a total of over 11.000 toys offered for sale to the 200+ participants.

In preparation for the event, the young changemakers met three times a week, twice to collect and organise the toys and once to write thank you notes to the sponsors. They were busy painting posters, looking for more volunteers and organising additional attractions like face painters and tattoo artists to make it a fun event, allowing the participants to buy toys for a good cause and have a great time while doing so.
100% of the funds raised at the Toy Sale went to the supported charities.
The remaining toys went to centres for underprivileged families in Hong Kong.
Yes, the topics they are raising awareness for are serious, but that does not mean that the children are not having fun while putting everyone’s attention on topics that really matter.
Another volunteering project they are involved in supports the China Coast Community where the kids do arts and craft with the elderly. China Coast Community provides residential care for English speaking elderly people regardless of their financial circumstances. Doing arts and crafts with the elderly was the first volunteering project for the Little Philanthropist ambassadors, and it enabled them to give back to their community and make a lot of new friends along the way.

In this recording, Jeorge and Sam share why they love volunteering, how they organise their fundraising events, what they will do differently when they are running their next Toy Sale & Charity Drive coming up this autumn and how ...

Join us to hear tales from 25 years fighting slavery, and why Matt Friedman of the Mekong Club is still hopeful.

“Today there are more slaves than at any other time in history.”

Matt Friedman‘s story does not always make for easy listening, but he tells it in such a way that, despite learning that there are 46m slaves worldwide, you feel hopeful that those numbers must decrease with Matt on the case.
Matt has spent his career trying to combat human trafficking, first for NGOs and now for the Mekong Club, a private industry collaboration that he founded. Learning that 60% of slaves are working in our global supply chains told Matt that getting multinationals on board would be the only way to make a significant impact in terms of numbers saved.
Matt has some great advice for other NGOs and activists on how to collaborate with industry in a positive, productive manner. And for consumers on how to get our favorite brands to engage on this issue.
Matt brings industry working groups together behind closed doors. The is no naming and shaming, just supportive sharing of approaches to address the problem.
In addition to his industry-centric approach, Matt shares insights on the importance of data collection and technology use in the fight to free slaves and catch traffickers. The Mekong Club collaborated with Google to overcome language barriers between slaves and local authorities.
Matt acknowledges that despite improvements in the number of people rescued from slavery, there is a long way to go. He is calling for a new abolitionist movement, and his amazingly supportive wife joined him on a 27 city tour through North America to inspire one.

    “The world needs help.”

Matt is incredibly humble, saying that everyone is in a position to lead impactful lives; the hard part is taking that first step. That’s his challenge now – getting more people to make that first step. Matt has some wise and inspiring words on how to light that spark in people and get them to work on the issues that matter.
Matt’s passion is infectious, and his call to action worked for us here at #impact. We are keen to find out if it might be the nudge some of our listeners need too.
Matt encourages us to face our fears and go after those hopes and dreams we had when we were younger.
    TAKE ACTION

    * Watch Matt’s TEDx video.
    * Get Matt’s book “Where were you? A Profile of Modern Slavery” here.
    * Find more information about The Mekong Club on their website and follow them on Facebook.

If the fight against slavery moves you, learn more about it, share it with someone else, become a responsible consumer. Congratulate companies that have policies on human trafficking. Volunteer. Fundraise for Mekong Club by creating your Just Giving events.
Or, look for your own moments to help, and seize them. Matt assures us that research shows it will make you happier. Matt’s call to action: “Find a cause that makes your heart sing and join the fight.  We all have something to offer.  We just need to overcome our fears and release that super hero that resides in all of us.”

Today we invite you to take a walk with us. In this episode, you meet Liz Steiger, Founder and CEO of Imperial Glamour Club.
We recorded this interview while taking a walk and encouraged a stranger to join us for a spontaneous workout session.

Liz is growing a community for women who aspire a slender body, self-confidence, and empowerment without drastic lifestyle changes. She developed an App with fitness exercises that helps its users to integrate a healthy routine into their daily life.

“Empower women with sports”  is at the heart of Liz’s mission.

Find out why Liz started this company and why she developed this App for herself in the first place. You hear about Liz’ Austrian heritage and what the famous Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sissy, has to do with her operations. We talk about the impact of her business and the little things that give her the encouragement that her work has a purpose.
And when talking about Austria, of course, we bring up classical music.
Meditation exercises to Mozart tunes through the Imperial Glamour Club App? Yes, please!

“Be more relaxed,” she advises fellow founders.

But staying relaxed is not always easy. Every morning Liz frantically checks if the server is up and running, a routine that every tech entrepreneur can relate to.
She lets you in on her market entry in the China and how she aims to expand the platform by creating content that people love.

That moment, when you approach a complete stranger in the park to encourage her to do some fitness exercises with you.
Do you think we can hit our target to make it to 10.000 steps when taking a walk in Hollywood Road park?
Well no, but later that day Liz got that step counter up to more than 18.000 steps.
