Imposter syndrome is like cooties- it’s a fear mongering fraud who’s only symptom is shame.
I don’t have a single friend who hasn’t felt imposter syndrome while coming of age. No matter how hard working we are or how deserving we are of a job, or a role in a play, or a masters program, new environments can convince us that we’re not enough.
Today’s guest became an expert in managing self doubt while navigating prestigious academia and competitive internships all while keeping feelings about whether or not she belonged and whether or not her mental health could sustain through all the negativity, bottled up. Throughout the episode, we both open up about our experiences, find similarities that lessen the power of the shame that a silo of negativity holds, and how not feeling good enough has different expressions in different people.
Thinking more broadly, we discuss how environments that lack representation can naturally other you, and we both offer up our best advice for coping with imposter syndrome, including self-reflection and self-care.
