“It is as reasonable to represent one kind of imprisonment by another as it is to represent anything that really exists by that which exists not.”

I read this as there are lots of ways to be imprisoned. It’s also a matter of perspective. You can be imprisoned by the beliefs you are chained to, as well as by fear and anger. Any recurring pain or emotion that you are controlled by (and not in control of) is imprisoning. Some things that we cannot see are real and some are imagined, and what’s hard about a plague is that it is devastatingly real and cannot be seen.
