    Dr. Anthony Stanowski is the President and CEO for the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Anthony guides the strategic vision and operations to ensure that CAHME meets its mission: to advance the quality of healthcare management education globally. 129 programs are CAHME-accredited.  

     Anthony held executive positions with a large academic health system, two community health systems, two global Fortune 200 companies, and a private healthcare technology firm. A frequent conference presenter, he co-authored “We Have A Match: My Journey through America’s Transplant System” detailing the challenges of the US Transplant system. Anthony serves on several healthcare tech advisory boards, a former Board Member of Bon Secours Health System, and served two terms on the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Governance.  

     Anthony’s doctorate degree is from the Medical University of South Carolina; graduate degrees from Drexel (MS Marketing) and Widener (MBA Health Care Administration) Universities. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

  • Clinical Informatics and COVID-19: Perspectives and Insights on Technology and the Care Continuum

    A great discussion on clinical informatics and some of the nuggets of wisdom from the COVID-19 pandemic with Jennifer Leos.

    Jennifer Leos MSN, RN-BC, PHN, CPHIMS is an experienced nurse leader in clinical informatics with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare. She has a diverse background in multiple care settings focused on strategy and development of programs as well as processes for health information technology  (IT) initiatives. Her core competences include health IT procurement, implementation and maintenance, as well as optimizations. 
    She is a registered nurse (RN) with a Masters of Nursing Informatics. Her credentials include: Certified Public Health Nurse, Certified Professional in Information Management Systems through the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Practitioner - Healthcare and IT. Jennifer is also an American Nurses Association (ANA) Certified Informatics Nurse.

  • Addressing Maternal Health Inequities: Early Intervention Matters and it Works!

    In this episode, I sat down with Veronda Durden of Any Baby Can and she shared insights as well as some of the great work her team is doing to make a difference around maternal health inequities in Central Texas!

    In January 2018, Veronda Durden joined Any Baby Can in the capacity of President and Chief Executive Officer. She brings a wealth of experience from a career built upon improving the lives of Texans through work with governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations and the Texas Legislature.

    Veronda is former Commissioner of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) where she provided leadership for a statewide staff responsible for ensuring Texans with disabilities and children with developmental delays pursue independent and productive lives. This mission is directly aligned with Any Baby Can’s, and speaks directly to Veronda’s heart.

    Prior to DARS, Veronda served as the Assistant Commissioner for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. She holds a Bachelor’s in Education from Northwestern University, and a Master of Science in Health Administration from Texas State University. Active in her church and community she serves on the Board of Directors for United Ways of Texas, Children’s Optimal Health, Work Force Solutions Capital Area and the Greater Texas Federal Credit Union.

    As Any Baby Can expands to meet the growing needs of Central Texans, Veronda will proactively lead the organization into the future, leaning on her years of health and human services experience and detail-oriented, compassionate, team building skills to establish Any Baby Can as a nonprofit industry leader in Austin.

  • Exploring Global Public Health Initiatives in Africa: Insights on HIV/AIDS management in Nigeria

    Great conversation with Dr. Udoete, a Nigerian-born physician and public health champion on insights in managing HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

    Iboro Udoete, MD is a trained and ECFMG certified physician and graduate learner in public health at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI. She grew up in Nigeria and gained her medical degree from All Saints University, Dominica. Her experience in healthcare delivery includes Nigeria, Dominica, and the United States.

    Dr Udoete is a global health enthusiast with a focused interest on HIV/AIDS care services, especially among resource-challenged and underserved communities. She currently works with the HIV surveillance department at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to increase pre-exposure prophylaxis awareness, prescribing efforts, and promotion among at-risk HIV populations across the state.

    She previously worked with a USAID funded Non-profit organization, FHI360 whose goal is to assist the Government of Nigeria to enhance sustained cross-sectional integration of HIV/AIDS services in the different high-risk states. She is very passionate about mitigating global health disparities and improving the quality of care of people living with HIV.

    In this episode, we will learn more about the Ghana Health System - its differences and similarities for comparison as well as insights with Dr. Elom Hillary Otchi.

    Elom Hillary Otchi is the the Technical Director of the Africa Institute of Healthcare Quality, Safety, and Accreditation (AfiHQSA). He is an expert in quality, a Certified Health Surveyor (CHS), and Fellow of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (FISQua). In Ghana he has held various roles including support for the National Patient Safety Policy. 

    Dr. Otchi holds a PhD from the University of Ghana, School of Public Health; a Masters Degree in Public Health (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology); Masters Degree  Organizational Development (University of Cape Coast) and a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

    Recognized nationally for her leadership and work in health equity and stakeholder engagement, Dr. Knitasha V. Washington is the president and founder of ATW Health Solutions. She has dedicated a life-long commitment to service and building viable partnerships to raise the national standard of healthcare for quality, safety and health equity. 

    With more than 20 years of experience as a healthcare professional, she has gained international prominence for her successful leadership and collaborations with world health care systems, United States Government Agencies, community health advocacy groups, and government policy makers; helping them through some of their most complex structural and organizational challenges. 

    Serving primarily as a performance improvement consultant for more than half of her career, Dr. Washington has demonstrated a successful track record for improving safety-net hospitals, public health care systems, and academic medical centers by implementing: public health campaigns, consultative performance improvement initiatives, policy analysis, organizational process improvement engagements, workflow analysis, and systems redesign

  • Systems Thinking in Healthcare: Intersections in Healthcare Delivery and Public Health

    In this episode, Dr. Johnson gives insights and nuggets for systems thinking in healthcare delivery. 

    James A. Johnson is a medical social scientist, global health analyst, and professor of health administration/international health at Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, MI) and visiting professor in public health at St. George's University (Georgetown, Grenada). He was previously Chair of the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC).

    Dr. Johnson teaches courses in health organization development, global health, systems thinking, and public health. His publications include over 100 journal articles and 19 books on a wide range of health care and organizational issues. Eighteen of his books are in the permanent collection of the National Library of Medicine. Additionally, he has served as editor of the Journal of Healthcare Management published by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE); editor of the Journal of Management Practice; founding editor of the Carolina Health Services and Policy Review, and is a contributing editor for the Journal of Health and Human Services Administration and the Journal of Human Security and Resilience.

  • Global Perspectives in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

    In this episode, Dr. Peter Lachman from Ireland shares his insights related to quality improvement from a global perspective.

    Peter Lachman M.D. MPH. M.B.B.Ch., FRCPCH, FCP (SA), FRCPI recently completed five years as Chief Executive Officer of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) Dublin, Ireland. He has extensive experience as a clinician and leader in quality improvement and patient safety. Dr Lachman was a Health Foundation Quality Improvement Fellow at the Institute for Health Improvement in 2005-2006 and developed the quality improvement program at Great Ormond Street Hospital where he was the Deputy Medical Director with the lead for Patient Safety. Prior to joining ISQua, Peter was also a Consultant Pediatrician at the Royal Free Hospital in London specializing in the challenge of long-term conditions for children. Dr Lachman has been the National Clinical Lead for SAFE, a Heath Foundation funded Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) program which aims to improve situation awareness in clinical teams. In Ireland he is Lead International Faculty at the Royal College of Physicians Ireland (RCPI) located in Dublin, where he co-directs the Leadership and Quality program to develop clinical leaders in quality improvement. He is co-founder and Chairperson of PIPSQC, the Pediatric International Patient Safety and Quality Community.

    Listen to international thought-leader Stephen Powell as he gives his insights on patient safety and high-reliability in healthcare.  We will hear Steve' story and how his time as a U.S. Navy and commercial airline pilot (with 14,000 hours) has helped him be successful in leadership of patient safety. 

    Stephen Powell is the CEO and founder of Synensys, a professional services company headquartered in Peachtree City, Georgia, USA. Steve is a recognized leader in performance improvement having led programs in the U.S. Navy, the commercial airline industry, and the healthcare industry for more than 30 years.

    His most recent experience includes patient safety, quality, and patient-centered care improvements, health systems strengthening, learning systems, high reliability, care coordination, value-based initiatives, and team training. Steve regularly provides assessments, training, consulting, and coaching services to senior leaders, managers, and teams in civilian, government, and military healthcare organizations worldwide.

    He has authored numerous articles on human-centered design, reflective learning, teamwork, global health, safety, change management, communication, quality improvement, patient experience, and patient safety culture. His book, “The Patient Survival Handbook: Avoid Being the Next Victim of Medical Error,” is a call to action for deeper patient engagement and activation for patient safety, increased effectiveness, and quality improvement.

    Steve is currently a Doctoral candidate in Health Administration at Central Michigan University. He earned a Master of Science in Human Factors from Embry-Riddle University. Steve is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School in Safety and earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

    Steve is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists, the Clinical Human Factors Group, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also serves as a Board member for the North Carolina Quality Center and the Armed Forces Mission.
