For today’s public transit show, we first talk to professor Kafui Attoh about affects of the coronavirus pandemic on bus-ridership, the right to the city, transportation justice, and the intersections of transit and access to public life and democracy.
In the second segment, Steven Higashide discusses his work with TransitCenter to support local public transportation advocacy, offers updates from New York City, and makes the case for more robust transit services for all.
Kafui Attoh is an assistant professor in earth and environmental sciences at the City University of New York (CUNY). He is the author of Rights in Transit: Public Transportation and the Right to the City in California’s East Bay (University of Georgia Press, 2019).
Steven Higashide is director of research for TransitCenter, a New-York-based foundation that supports innovations in urban transportation across the country. He is the author of Better Buses, Better Cities: How to Plan, Run, and Win the Fight for Effective Transit (Island Press, 2019).
