The Soga clan immigrated into the islands along with other people from Baekje, Silla, the Gaya confederacy, and Goguryeo bringing with them, continental culture and Buddhism. It would not be until the beginning of the Asuka period that Buddhism would take root with the people and not until the Nara period that uniquely Japanese forms of Buddhism would emerge.
