In pursuit of a whole life, is it enough to make incremental changes, or does the pursuit of a truly healthy life require something bigger of us? Join Dion in a conversation with Shawn and Coreen, who did something crazy (and awesome) to try to get their out-of-balance lives back on track. Join us as we discuss the darkside of "dream jobs," prioritizing for your values, and the benefits of incremental and sweeping changes. While best selling author Brene Brown made the topic of shame famous, few of us realize how pervasive it is in our lives. In this episode, Dion is joined by Bryan, an educator and theologian as they discuss shame's role in a person's life, the theological perspective of shame as "anti-creation," all guided by Dr. Curt Thompson's book, "The Soul of Shame" Links in this episode: The Soul of Shame https://a.co/d/9CpArH5, The Whole Life Assessment https://pathfinderstl.org/whole-life#WL%20Assessment

It’s easy to prosper others when you’re healthy, whole, well-supplied, and strong, but when you’re weak, beaten-down, broke, or depleted, there’s no way you can be expected to still bless those around you, right? As the old saying goes, “Put the oxygen mask on yourself first before you help someone else.” So, what do you do when you’re just not in a position to bless anyone?

Surely the call to prosper those around us has limits. God wouldn’t approve of prospering people who have evil intentions or have deliberately hurt people, right? Think again! The scriptures are filled with examples that challenge our thinking of how even our most obvious and legitimate enemies should be treated.

To depend on the hospitality of another is difficult for many of us; we’d rather be the giver than the receiver. But throughout the scriptures, even when the people of God are the recipients of someone else’s hospitality, what they give back is far greater in value than what they receive. Is it ever permissible—or even possible—that the people of God would benefit from the kindness of others more than they could give back?

People have long wondered, is God a god who is out to bless or curse? On one hand, the prophets warn us that a holy God interacting with sinful people will always spell disaster. On the other hand, God continually describes himself as a God who is unequivocally out to bless. What are we to believe about God’s character and true intentions for people, especially in light of some of the harsher passages of Scripture?

Every change gives you the opportunity to become new, explore new things, to change yourself in a positive way. While most people view change negatively, it can provide an opportunity to get out of a rut and discover richer things than you had before.

Some things that we lose need to stay lost, we say goodbye to them as parts of our past, they don’t have a place in our future. But as you sift through the remains of what was, you also will discover things you will still need in your next chapter. But how do you know if you’re trying to hold on to something you need to let go of?

When you’re starting at square one, it can be overwhelming. But that’s mostly because we don’t know what square one actually is. As important as it is to rebuild your finances, career, purpose, or health, none of those things matter nor are they realistically attainable until you first rebuild your relationships.

Those who are able to rebound from loss and disruption learn to overcome the thinking that pervades our minds in the aftermath of such losses. Although these mindsets are common, they’re not helpful for our moving on. By reshaping your mindset, you can be assured that you will reemerge, better than ever.
