Raised within the confinements of a strict Gambian-Muslim household, Mariamu often felt trapped by cultural expectations placed her both at home and from her community. Forced to navigate between two worlds, she spent most of her childhood figuring out what being both African and American meant to her. Meet Lewis is Dead, the South Jersey-based rapper/producer that is taking the industry by storm. At 26, Lewis has written and produced two albums (Darko and Riverwolf). Born in Guinea, West Africa Rahilou grew up in a male-dominated community that placed men at a higher status causing women to be at a disadvantage. Fueled by the injustices against women in Guinea, Rahilou moved to the United States at age 6,  determined to take charge of her future.  Join us as we get to know the woman behind the Toilet Podcast, and how her choice to actively unlearn cultural expectations has allowed her to defy family cultural expectations and work towards defining her identity.
