In the final episode of our preseason training series, Curtis dials up the intensity for your next cross practice. He suggests 5 minute “mock races” with your group, along with even shorter 90 second races, creating a high intensity environment that will help with your starts. These drills, mixed with staggered start drills of 5-10 second intervals will have you working under pressure, focusing on holding the wheel in front of you at race pace.
Curtis also reminds us to keep it fun, always adding an element of play, with drills like “foot down” and “dual slalom racing.” Get in the Red because cross is here!

This week we ramp-up the intensity with running up to 30 min, 1-2 times a week at a comfortable pace, plyo circuits focused on range of motion and increased explosiveness, 5 minute “mock races” with your group, focusing on holding the wheel, and more “Sven climbs”.
We also breakdown a Baloise Trek Lions training video that is sure to motivate your next training session.

Two bigs wins capped a season of accomplishments for Niels Vandeputte of Alpecin Deceuninck. After overcoming an off-season injury, he raced more times than any other rider in 2023/2024 all while balancing college studies with the Kersperiode, managing final exams with his World Championship preparation, and still having a enough gas in the tank to race in February. This is the story of a true cross racer.

All the work is done, and it's time to see where Curtis stands among the best in the world. In less than one week, he takes the startline at the World Championship for the 11th time in his career. His approach has been a bit different, only racing a short three-race block in Europe (as opposed to his traditional heavy 10-12 race schedule during the legendary Kerstperiode). The night before he flies to Prague, we reflect on his preparation, his performance at World Cup Hoogerheide, and preview Sunday's World Championship race.
