  • Episode 629: In The Seats With....Evany Rosen and 'Davey and Jonesie's Locker

There's an unbridled joy, in the simple art of being funny...

On this very special episode we dive into a brand new show that reminded the simple joy of laughing our faces off.  It's time to dive into 'Davey & Jonesie's Locker'.

Davey & Jonesie's Locker is a coming-of-age comedy centred on the relationship between two inseparable best friends, Davey & Jonesie. The two lovably eccentric besties have always felt out of place with their peers and their high school existence. So, when they discover their locker is actually a portal to the multiverse, they’re more than ready to escape their teenage prison of mediocrity.

To put it mildly, this show is one of our new favourite things as it combines the smart coming of age hilarity of a movie like Booksmart with the unhinged (yet genius) stupidity of something like Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with creator and show runner Evany Rosen to talk about the origins of the show and so very much more....

Davey & Jonesie's Locker is on Prime Video now (or HULU in the US)

  • Episode 622: In The Seats With....James A Woods, Nicolas Wright and 'French Girl'

Love can occasionally present itself in some pretty strange ways....

In theatres now, it's time to make an unexpected trip back to this hosts home province and an unexpectedly charming tale of true love.  It's time for 'French Girl'.

Gordon (Zack Braff), is a hopeless romantic, finds his proposal plans are thrown into chaos when his girlfriend is swept away to Quebec by a job offer from her ex, a sophisticated celebrity chef. Determined to keep their love alive, Gordon leaves Brooklyn for her hometown, only to find himself hilariously out of his depth in attempting to charm her hard-to-impress, French-speaking family.

This one was unexpectedly charming which is likely thanks to the somewhat fresh take that debut writer/directors James A Woods and Nicolas Wright took in telling this story.  It still has all the appropriate emotional moments without overtly leaning too hard into any expected story telling beats from the genre.

We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with James and Nicholas in advance of the release to talk about the origins of the story, making Quebec City a character of its own, the distinct nature of Quebecois cinema and so very much more.

When Rachel, played by Michelle Harrison, receives life-changing news, she secretly grapples with her mortality while playing host to her friends who have grown up and gone their separate ways since college. Carrie, a mother of 3, Natalie, a workaholic neurosurgeon, former football star turned sportscaster Collin, and playboy man-child Danny join Rachel and her husband at their picturesque home on the beautiful and secluded Bowen Island. Rachel’s nostalgia is echoed by the group as they realize how much time has gone by, and how much they have all changed. As secrets are revealed, they are forced to change the way they look at their futures.

With echoes of films like 'The Big Chill' there's something about 'Re:Uniting' that just feels so genuine that you won't want to look away from this fantastic ensemble piece.

  • Episode 620: In The Seats With...Jeremy Lalonde and 'Daniel's Gotta Die'

Even on the best of days...family is complicated.

On this episode we dive head first into a dark yet hilarious ensemble comedy which is in theatres tomorrow.  Brace yourself because 'Daniel's Gotta Die'.

Daniel (Joel David Moore) has always been somewhat estranged from his family, but a chance at family unity comes around when he's called to the hospital bed of his father Edward (Iggy Pop).  Much to the chagrin of his other siblings (Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carly Chaikin and Jason Jones) they can only inherit their share of their father's fortune unless they reunite as a family, other wise Daniel gets it all.  Under the watch of their family lawyer (Bob Saget) they all head down to their family home in the Cayman Islands to reunite as a family, but Daniel is the only one invested in "family time", as the rest of them plot the only way to get the money and back to their lives; Daniel's Gotta Die.

A fun romp that borrows from the likes of Agatha Christie to a myriad of revenge comedies, it's a truly entertaining ensemble piece that will have laughing and squirming just a little bit right from the outset.

We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with director Jeremy Lalonde to talk about the genesis of the project, shooting during the pandemic, memories of Bob Saget  and so very much more.
