    1. EP 17 Gulf Boys' Bollywood Dreams

What does it take for someone born and raised outside India to make it in Bollywood?

In this episode of India: A Story in the Making, we explore the incredible journey of Taha Shah Badussha, the standout star of Netflix's Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. For Taha, a 'Gulf Boy,' it took 14-15 years of relentless struggle to achieve this success.

What inspired a boy with Indian roots, raised in the Gulf, to pursue acting? How did he overcome the challenges? And what advice does he have for aspiring actors aiming for Bollywood? Join us as we dive into Taha's story during his recent visit to London, filled with passion, perseverance, and valuable insights.

      ABOUT

      Taha Shah Badussha

Born in Abu Dhabi to Dr. Shah Sikkander Badusha and Mahnaz Sikkander Badusha, Taha's education spanned several countries. He studied in Abu Dhabi, India, and Sharjah, but left college early to pursue his passion for acting at the New York Film Academy in Abu Dhabi.

Taha initially worked with his mother in various businesses and did some modeling. When the 2008 financial crisis hit, fate led him to acting. Taha moved to Mumbai and debuted as a lead in Yash Raj's "Luv Ka The End." Discovered by casting director Shanoo Sharma, he secured roles in prominent films like Karan Johar's "Gippi," "Barkhaa," and "Baar Baar Dekho.”

Taha’s big break came recently with the Netflix series "Heeramandi," where he played the character of Tajdaar.

      INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY

The Indian film industry is the largest in the world in terms of the number of films produced, with 1,500-2,000 films created annually in over 20 languages. While Hollywood in the USA leads globally in influence, revenue, and production quality, Indian films hold significant potential not only within India but also among the Indian diaspora in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

In 2024, the cinema market revenue in India is projected to reach US$4.63 billion, with an annual growth rate of 5.50% leading to a market volume of US$6.05 billion by 2029. The number of viewers is expected to reach 653.2 million by 2029, with user penetration increasing from 38.7% in 2024 to 43.5% by 2029. The average revenue per viewer is projected at US$8.31.

Globally, for the Indian films, most revenue will be generated in the United States, amounting to US$20,980 million in 2024, with key regions including Europe, France, Asia, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

    3. EP15 Doing deal with India is really really Important for us | Baroness Foster

Free Trade Agreement between India and the UK has been in the works for some time. In this episode, we speak with Baroness Arlene Foster, who currently chairs Inter Trade UK and was the first female First Minister of Northern Ireland, about whether part of the delay comes from the colonial hangover that Britain still needs to shed completely. We also explore how the elections in both countries might impact the finalisation of the FTA.

Baroness Foster offers her unique perspective on these developments, especially at a time when post-Brexit Britain is seeking to carve its place in the world, and India has surged ahead economically, surpassing the UK to become the fifth-largest economy in the world.

In addition to her professional insights, Baroness Foster opens up about her personal journey, sharing what it was like to balance being a mother and serving as the First Minister. These beautiful moments give listeners a glimpse into the woman behind the political figure.

If you are a connoisseur of politics and eager to understand the inside story, and if you want to know more about the remarkable woman shaping these significant trade discussions, this podcast is for you.

    6. High Five India | Stefano della Chiesa d'Isasca

This was the- High Five India edition of the episode "Is India’s growth the next global game-changer?" on the show 'India: A Story in the Making', where we seek global perspectives on the India story.

In this episode, my guest Stefano della Chiesa d'Isasca, an investment banker with expertise in the structured credit market and deep knowledge of emerging markets, delves into the factors shaping his considerations of India as an investment destination.

He addresses concerns surrounding India's ambition to become a $5 trillion economy, questioning the readiness of its infrastructure to support such growth.

Despite the GDP increase, worries persist over wealth concentration in the hands of a few families.

Are these concerns deterring potential investors from exploring opportunities in India?

Moreover, while India presents itself as a promising investment hub, does the complexity of its internal politics give foreign investors pause?

If you're seeking to understand and navigate India's dynamic investment landscape, this episode is just what you need.

      Your support fuels our energy.

    8. EP 14 Is the Hindu Goddess a Feminist?

Are we viewing the world solely through the lenses of patriarchy and feminism, or is there another perspective to consider?

Looking at the strong women deities in Hindu philosophy, we are inclined to think:

Is the Hindu Goddess a Feminist?

These lingering questions inspire us to reflect.

Despite India's pride in powerful goddesses like Durga, Kali, and Chandi, we're confronted with harsh realities like dowry deaths, low female mortality and literacy rates.

The issues might vary, but the conversation around the odds against women is not too dissimilar in western countries. Case in point the UK: from domestic violence to the gender pay gap both and many such are pressing issues that the society faces.

Join Catherine Rowan, born in the UK, and myself, born in India, as we connect on the issues surrounding women.

Catherine shares how she, as a Western woman, found her freedom in these formidable Hindu deities and now uses these concepts to liberate individuals from their fears, unveiling their true potential.

If you feel trapped in life or relationships, join us on this journey to discover your authentic power.

    9. EP 13 Unfiltered conversations: Do borders define boundaries?

Empowerment is sometimes an overused term, especially when discussing women, and even more so during Women's Day.
What does that word really mean, and how can it be applied to people's lives?

India is often perceived as a conservative country, while Western society is viewed as more liberal.

Personally, I never felt that way when I came to stay in the UK.

When similar thoughts resonated during a spontaneous luncheon with five women, all from the same country but with different backgrounds, it was like witnessing an episode of "India: A Story in the Making."

It all started with the question - Do borders define boundaries? And then one thing led to another, resulting this episode on: Unfiltered conversations: Do borders define boundaries?

This impromptu shoot was facilitated by Maitri Raunak Patel, the house help of the day, who hails from a village in Gujarat, India.
Believe me; she knew much more and revealed herself as a keen photographer.
The proof is in the pudding.

That lunch became one of the most memorable experiences.

Whether you are from India or not, it will touch you, as it delves into universal emotions of love, strength, respect and friendship, wrapped in many heartwarming stories.

      The episode features:
