As God-s people living today as the Church, we should be living in anticipation of the rapture that will occur prior to the beginning of this seven-year tribulation on the earth. Signs in the heavens portend the coming wrath of God. Terror by cataclysmic effects from the natural world while being fully controlled by God are fully out of the control of the earth-dwellers who are living out their rebellion against the Lord. Riches, prosperity, nor success on the earth will insulate from the physical effects of God-s wrath. Worldly status is leveled by the judgments to come. Even then simple faith in Jesus Christ will provide full deliverance from God-s eternal wrath and for most who become believers at that time, entrance by means of martyrdom into the presence of the Lord in heaven.

The message of the Gospel when believed is the whole truth and provides justification by faith alone in Christ alone by God's grace alone. That being true, nothing can, or needs to. be add to what God has done. Moral reform, law-keeping, or any other self-righteous efforts will fall short of any attempts to add to what God has done or improve upon it. Result will be a faith that is misdirected from or divvied up with the only object of saving faith which is Jesus Christ alone.

Paul had to confront Peter with his inconsistency concerning his personal practice of some requirements of the law. Peter had brought condemnation on himself by his practice and the very gospel he was actively involved in proclaiming. He was being hypocritical because of his compromise to his Jewish peer pressure. The matter was serious due to the structure of the leadership in the early church centered on the apostles. What leadership does will be practiced by those being led so Paul's concerns and confrontation were necessary, documented by God in the Scriptures for believers to continue to be wary and mindful of.

Overview: Early in the church-s history the apostles had to gather to verify the Gospel. One and the same gospel was being preached by all the true apostles. Any alteration or change to the message was an indication of the presence of false apostles with a false message. The need to affirm the one and only true gospel as the one and only way of salvation became necessary as the message was being proclaimed to Gentiles as well as the Jews. The apostle Paul-s message had been given him by direct revelation from God. The message of the other apostles was directly from God as well having been taught them by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry. Conclusion from the meeting was that there was one and the same message from God being proclaimed by all the genuine apostles. The Gospel had been entrusted to the men God had appointed to be His apostles who with the prophets of the Old Testament where used by God to lay the foundation of the church. Being entrusted with the Gospel at times called for defending and protecting it from any attempts to alter, amend, or adjust it for different peoples, different times or cultures. The faithfulness of those apostles ensures that the same Gospel today has the same power to save as it is proclaimed in truthfulness.

Overview: Standing for the truth and purity of the Gospel has been divisive since the early church. The power of salvation being unleashed through the message of the Gospel makes it an ongoing target for the devil and his allies in opposing God and His people. The believers in the early church held fast to it and defended the pure and whole truth at any and every cost. In defending the Gospel those apostles in the church had to clarify what the faith that saves believes and what effect that faith has on the one who believes. Attempts to add requirements to faith in the Gospel for salvation by false converts in the religious community had to be confronted and refuted. The Gospel as had been given by God had to be defended and proclaimed without human compromise, additions, or deletions. To have done otherwise would have negated the saving power of the message no matter how sincerely it was proclaimed or believed, as it will today.
