SALIO

SALIO hails from the Republic of Georgia, a place known to some for its harmonic scales and the birthplace of wine, but not by most. A remarkably gifted vocalist and composer from a young age, she decided to leave her home country and find her place in the wider world.

The natural beauty in her voice broke Dean’s heart, literally. Just days later he was in hospital for a quadruple bypass operation.

Chicago native hip-hop recording artist, Imran Mandani, loves a good challenge; in the entertainment industry where only a handful of Asian Indians have reached mainstream success as comedians, musicians, or actors, the Windy City rapper and graphic designer enjoys carving his own path while evolving his brand.

From writing hip-hop verses over a pop ballad to putting poetic prose over a rugged rap instrumental, a listener wouldn't know what to expect next, but the unpredictability has recently garnered interest from a variety of audiences."I try to be diverse," says Imran, whose musical influences are just as eclectic as the plethora of playlists on his iTunes app. However, he wasn't always a music connoisseur. During his school days, Imran was more concerned about coming up with impromptu rhyming retorts to stereotypes during freestyle battles on stage than creating wide-ranging albums."Everyone had the same '7:11-on-the-dot' punchlines and clichés for me” he explains, and although people were impressed with his lyrical abilities, he became discouraged."People loved me for my verbal talent, but I was still Indian and didn't try to act ghetto. My culture also had different expectations of me, so hip-hop just became a pastime," he elaborates further, understanding now what he didn't back then; that music trends keep changing and that people should follow their passions in life.

The album was led by the explosive singles "Dirty Business" and "Oedipus Wrecks," and will be followed by 2021 tour dates COMING SOON.

GÜRSCHACH

Gürschach (pronounced Ger-shock) is a four-piece Experimental Metal band from the San Francisco Bay Area, whose main vision is to create an unfamiliar, yet captivating listening experience for their audience. X, Leyland Reid, and Daniel Justo- Sanchez originally formed the band in late 2011, mostly playing songs that X and Leyland both wrote together while they were still in high school.  It wasn't until 2014 that Scotty McRib joined the band to complete the lineup.  On October 10, 2015, Gürschach released their first EP, BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMARES, independently on a micro-budget, as an embodiment of the phrase DIY.  The music on the EP would be the first and last time the band would release a straightforward Thrash Metal record.

A lot of reasons for that, but probably the biggest is an onslaught of debilitating depression that affected nearly every area of my life. And with depression came doubts. And with doubts came delays. And then dust began to settle. Which depressed the fuck out of me even more. I’ve successfully battled this demon for, God, decades, and it hasn’t been this bad since way back in some very dark times. And I know I’m not alone out there. So many of my friends, especially my creative, artistic friends, fight the same demon, and this pandemic has been emotional quicksand.

IMMUNE

Immune is the marching band to either the apocalypse or redemption – take your pick.

As the Doomsday Clock ticks and tocks its way toward oblivion, they have chosen to abandon the path of least resistance in favor of authenticity and musical defiance. Calling the broken metropolis of Los Angeles home, Immune has performed at Ozzfest and Mayhem Festival and have had their music featured in numerous films and television shows. Currently hard at work on a new EP, they have recorded with legendary producers and engineers including Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down) and Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, Social Distortion).

In an odd twist, it turns out that I owe a huge debt of thanks to today’s guest and featured artist, Kendra Black, for helping to pull me out of that quicksand. From the time we first talked, she’s been checking in on me, mainly to find out when the hell her episode was going to drop, but also, I sense, because she suspects some of the roadblocks I’ve been staring at getting the show back on line. Those regular check-ins have been like little bursts of light and warmth through a dingy window. I’m already lining up artists for the next episode, and am very gratified that so many of the bands and artists I love are starting to book dates again, and can’t wait to share with you all the Indie music news that comes my way. INDIEcent Exposure rides again, brothers and sisters. 

THE TWEED

The Tweed is a Moscow / LA rock duo. The band was formed in 2009 by lead singer and guitarist Greg Pekk and drummer Matt Shepard, and was initially intended as a quintet. However, after a long hard search and some member changes The Tweed became a duo in May 2014.

So, The Tweed are constantly looking for a Team/Record Label ready to be involved in the creation of wonderful music.

I have, as my special guest, rapper 2Toaster Los, who spoke to me last month from New Jersey State Prison, where he was serving the last two weeks of a sentence that ran just under eleven years. In fact as we release Episode 36 of INDIEcent Exposure, it’s Friday, November 8, 2019, which just happens to be the date of the Album Release party for Wes Buckley’s Dancing the Bliss happening toNIGHT at the Lichenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
