Chiltern is hosting a thoroughly unique cultural event on Saturday 29 March. John McEwen Day will see the village embrace arguably its most famous past resident, former Prime Minister John McEwen, who was born on 29 March 1900.

On what is the 125th anniversary of McEwen’s birth, John McEwen Day will comprise self-guided walks of the town as well as presentations and displays at the Courthouse and Star Theatre. And special guest Barrie Cassidy, formerly host of ABC’s Insiders and other current affairs shows and himself a famous Chiltern past resident, will be a special guest at this event.

Joining Scott on the line to chat about this event is key organiser Merv Rea.

5 years ago we entered a strange foggy existence known as COVID lockdowns. The music industry globally along with entertainment and the arts took a massive hit and the recovery has been somewhat fragmented. Today's show starts with a nod to Feb-March 2020 with tracks by Irish folk duo The Ocelots and Mick Thomas singing about Sal Kimber's show at Merri Creek Tavern. Festival of Small Halls came to Sandy Creek this weekend and we offer up one of Mick Thomas' gems - his early music gig recollection as a kid at the Colac Hall watching Tex Morton from the second Weddings Parties Anything album Roaring Days. We then move into a bunch of new music from Rowena Wise + Didirri, Minor Gold, Ryan Oliver, Ruby Gill, Josh Rennie-Hynes, Montreal's Basia Bulat, LA's Lucius and a surprise new album from Boston legends Throwing Muses. Speaking of the latter, we feature their early 1995 album University as our Time Machine segment. And for context also spint 2 classics from an earlier album The Real Ramona.

Bud "Leo" Welch recordiing career only lasted 3 yeas, but he did not start until he was  83 years old.  And those not mentioned are slouches by any strectch of the imagination.
