E.Z. Shakes will perform live at Art Bar in Columbia on Saturday, June 7 during the James Wallace Love Fest, a benefit show running from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Featuring eight bands, the event supports local musician James Wallace with medical and living expenses as he battles cancer.

To kick off Season 2 of Indigo Sounds, the podcast behind this newsletter, I had an excellent chat with George Fetner of George Fetner and the Strays (GFATS) and his new improv-rock band, TenMileRide. They’ll play this Thursday night at New Brookland Tavern with local vets and future podcast guests, E.Z. Shakes.

SHOWS showed up to the pod before a Dear Blanca practice last week ahead of their tour with the Sloppy boys. Dylan Dickerson (SHOWS, Dear Blanca), Brett Nash (8 bands we learned including SHOWS and Dear Blanca), and Marshall Brown (SHOWS, holy pine, etc.) performed a new song called “Marshman” and then Marsh dipped out to go to the Bavarian Circus and Dylan and Brett hung out for a chat.

A few weeks ago Daniel Machado texted me and said he had a new band with Marshall Brown on bass and Michael Crawford on drums. We haven’t talked much over the past few years, so it was great to catch up with Daniel and the guys. We talked about Creed, and from there dove into Daniel’s new music, a rock, guitar, based venture. This one might feel more like an eavesdrop.

⁠Travel Therapy⁠ released their new album “⁠Sum Notes⁠” in late 2023, the duos second full length release. The synth sounds of Michael Gutshall (keys, drums, guitar, vocals) and Smith Austin (bass, percussion, vocals), started in 2019 and have grown into their sound over the next four years. Aaron Burke stopped by the studio on a Sunday afternoon in December before an evening of rehearsals with his live band for his new record. His new release under the Aaron J. Burke title is called "Young Pier Jumpers," a sprawling work written over the past three years. The Gláss frontman had his guitar in tote and played a couple of new songs from the record live on the pod.
