4:20 pm Hurricane Berly left behind a path of destruction in its wake, widely in wind and rain damage, but with many localized flooded areas too. What recourse do many home and business owners have to be compensated for their losses? We turn to experienced insurance agent Ronnie Patel for answers.

4:50 pm The long loss of power due to the damage perpetuated by Hurricane Beryl has left many people fuming at the lack of response and preparedness by the electric utility CenterPoint Energy. Many businesses are pursuing legal recourse against CenterPoint for damages from loss of food to loss of business and even the loss of lives. Does any of this legal action claim merit? We turn to Harris County Assistant District Attorney Nathan Beedle for clarifications.

5:20 pm Not only did Hurricane Beryl knock out electricity for 2.3 million people, it also took down cell and internet service for most. What caused this cascading effect and why did some people have cellular internet but keep losing talk signal yet be able to send text messages? We ask IT guru Chetan Amin to educate us on the differences.

5:40 pm Houston lost a beloved stalwart of the Democratic party, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, who passed away yesterday, July 19 to pancreatic cancer. In her 28 years in Congress, she was a strong and persistent voice for fairness for the common rights of the underclass and a champion of civil rights. We turn to her friend of many years and currently Honorary Consul of Guyana, Lutfi Hassan, and her other good friends Congressman Al Green and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis for remembrances of her achievements for her hometown.

4:20 pm As lifestyles and fashions change in the New World, many Desi immigrants – and especially women – change their attire and then find themselves with an abundance of unworn Indian garments that gather dust in their closets. This becomes more acute when a person passes away and then you discover that there is no secondary market for the old saris, lenghas and salwar kameezes. Longtime choreographer Kusum Sharma has found an ingenious way of recycling these clothes for the benefit of the poor and refugees in India and joins us today to tell us more.

5:00 pm The cost of college education continues to soar in the US, even at lower tier universities and community colleges and many students find themselves strapped for tuition and fees. Recognizing this need, several non-profits offer scholarships to help part of the way. One of these is the Bhalla Outstanding Student Scholarship or BOSS which offers an opportunity to  compete for a $5,000 scholarship. To tell us more, we are joined by India Culture Center past and current Board members Swapan
    Dhairyawan and Sangeeta Dargan.

5:20 pm The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is now history with the Indian squad victorious in the finals played in Barbados. But this year, the weather was also a newsmaker due to the ravaging effects of Category 5 Hurricane Beryl which hit the island right after the finals. Many people – including the teams – were left stranded for a few days, including our reporter Rugwed Damle who made it out two days ago and is in our studio today to give a firsthand narrative about the finals and the aftereffects of the hurricane.

These scams may seem like innocent requests but many prey on the fear that horrible things may happen if you don’t comply. John Brewer is the Chief of Economic Crimes at the Ft Bend County DA’s office and will explain how not to become a victim of scams.

5:00 pm For those new to the US, seeking legal services if you lack financial resources, political power, English proficiency, or knowledge of the American legal system can be a formidable task. Zenobia Lai is the Executive Director of Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative, which develops creative solutions to issues affecting Houston’s immigrant community and builds strategic partnerships to help them seek immigration advice and help. 4:20 pm For years, people have lamented that the current immigration processing system is broken and needs an overhaul. These past few weeks, President Biden has issued Executive Orders that aim to rectify flaws in the system by limiting asylum seekers to the first 2,500 who are processed in a day and by issuing “parole in place” to spouses of documented workers. Today, we are joined again with eminent immigration attorney, George Willy to talk about these two new changes to the immigration system.

5:00 pm Tanishq is an Indian jewelry brand and a division of Titan Company. Founded in 1994, Tanishq is
headquartered in Bangalore, and has 410 retail stores across more than 240 cities in India, UAE, the US, Singapore and Qatar. Late last year, Tanishq opened up its Houston location on Post Oak Blvd. We are joined today by Satyajit Rout, Business Manager, Titan Company, North America operations, to explain what sets Tanishq apart from the other jewelers.

5:20 pm With most of us living in the fast lane of work, family obligations and social networks, very few take the time to see how their investments are doing and even fewer have the necessary skill sets to do a good job in making their wealth work for them. That’s where a Private Wealth Advisor like Supal Vora, CEO of Navina Wealth, can step in and offer guidance. We are very fortunate that he will be on the show every month for the next few months to offer advice and take calls on the air.

5:20 pm We have recently featured pieces on the internet – a Death Vault and blocking service - to bring attention to what you could encounter in this digital world. Through posts on social media, websites and email, we leave our digital footprint in cyberspace and have devices full of photos and videos in hard drives and the iCloud. But how can authorities – or hackers – backtrack the digital fingerprint that you leave and can it be manipulated maliciously? We turn to IT specialist Chetan Amin for answers.
