4:20 pm In nine more days, Houstonians and residents of surrounding cities will elect leaders for municipal positions as well vote on 14 state propositions, and several local and school district propositions. In Houston City Council District G there are two candidates seeking to unseat Mary Nan Huffman who is seeking re-election. Among the challengers is Tony Buzbee, a high-powered attorney who has become widely known for winning high-profile cases like the recent one against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Tony ran for Houston Mayor in 2019 but lost to Sylvester Turner. He joins us now to explain why he is seeking the District G position and what he hopes to accomplish.

4:50 pm Also at stake is the position for Mayor of the area’s

largest city, Houston. A crowded field of 17 candidates are running for this position, and among the fore runners are two well-known names – both Democrats – who have served the Bayou City well for nearly three decades. We are joined by incumbent US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee who announced her candidacy in March, and if she wins, will return to the halls of Houston City Council where she started her political career in 1989. She is well admired for her love for the city and her progressive voting record and as champion of civil rights. She calls in to explain why she is the better candidate for Houston Mayor.

4:20 pm When it comes to financial investments, some of us think we know it all while others are clueless as to where to squirrel away their hard earned money for a rainy day. There are those investment advisors like Randhir Sahni who have spent a lifetime helping others build up their accounts for all those major moments in life, like financing high school and college educations, paying for elaborate weddings, buying a home and most important of all, living comfortably in retirement. Randhir has built a huge portfolio of accounts he manages and agreed to share his wealth of knowledge with our listeners.

4:50 pm Among large American cities, Houston is fortunate to have many works of art exhibited all across town, especially sculptures – like along Allen Parkway – and murals – like in the Est End. We even have pieces on display the Intercontinental Airport, like the one of former President George H. W. Bush and the playful art cows and astronaut in two terminals. But the Aquarius Art Tunnel – 240 ft long, 24 ft wide and 10 ft high – connecting Terminals D & E that opened late last year is a visually unique experience for travelers to immerse themselves in. We are fortunate to be joined by artist Janavi Mahimtura Folmsbee who will tell us more about her imaginative installation.

5:20 pm If necessity is the mother of invention, then having a backer get your start up off the ground is the lubricant that is so essential for all entrepreneurs to get their businesses going. That’s the role that The IndUS Entrepreneurs, a 31-year-old non-profit organization, plays in making access easier for Indo Americans to make their ideas a reality by offering education, mentorship, networking and funding opportunities, We are joined today by member Sammy Haroon who will tell us more about TiE and its upcoming gala on November 2 at the Junior League, featuring Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia.

5:20 pm Houston Mayoral race candidate Shiels Jackson Lee joins us for a brief interview

4:20 pm Last month we featured Harris County District Attorney Office’s Assistant DA Shiela Hansel who talked to us about identity theft, which is one of the most common types of consumer fraud but there was still such a lot of information that she had to impart on credit card fraud that we asked her to come back again and share it with us. Consumer fraud is commonly defined as deceptive business practices that cause consumers to suffer financial or other losses. The victims believe they are participating in a legal and valid business transaction when they are actually being defrauded. Sheila is with us again in the studio today. WE REGRET THAT THE AUDIO WAS NOT RECORDED DUE TO A TECHNICAL GLITCH

4:50 pm Indian food is a dual-edged sword: we love its rich sauces, flavors and varieties from every region of the country but it is high in oils, carbohydrates and sugars and low in protein, especially the vegetarian dishes. A constant diet of this can lead to complications of diabetes and high blood pressure. We turn to Diksha Dee Gautham who struggled with her own fitness and launched her startup - The Boss Body Revolution, an online Nutrition and Fitness coaching company - to help other women build lasting, sustainable health through their habits and mindset, to explain how to turn things around for a healthier you.

5:20 pm Although he has the education of a computer engineer and works in the technology field, Ali Tarique’s heart, even from an early age, was into the creative arts – recitation, drama, music and literature - which he dabbled in during his college years in Bangladesh where he was also a contributor to the English newspaper The Daily Star. He has produced stageplays and films, written poems short stories and articles and has just released his debut English novel Echo of the Silence. He joins us in the studio to talk about his novel.
