Today we explore sorting and choosing factions in pop culture. When does it work? When is it problematic? Primarily, we talk about the sorting processes in Harry Potter and the Divergent series. Note: if you have not read the 3rd Divergent book, Allegiant, there are some spoilers, but we warn you ahead of time.
After that, we assign each other pop culture homework! Meg and Jen each choose a TV show for the other to watch for the first time. Watch along with us, if you like! We will be discussing these in the next episode.
As always, our intro/outro music is "We are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
Thanks for listening!
Today we are talking about nostalgia. Reboots, remakes, and callbacks to other eras dominate our movies and prestige television. We are here to talk about the phenomenon, our favorites, and what makes us feel nostalgic.
As usual, our intro/outro music is "We are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
We are back from Comic Con and other adventures, here to give our thoughts on our favorite SDCC moments, panels, moderators, exclusive content, and swag! Additionally, Meg highlights her European adventures and Jen gushes about the new greatest thing ever, the netflix original series "Stranger Things".
As always, our wonderful intro/outro music is "We are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
Hello, we are back with original content! In this episode, Meg and Jen discuss tropes in a new game we like to call "TV tropes roulette"! For our main module, we talk about our favorite pop culture sidekicks, from Samwise Gamgee to John Watson to Harry Potter's pals Hermione and Ron, plus a quick shout-out to Star Wars sidekicks the audience can't understand (Chewie, R2D2, BB8, etc). We wrap everything up with a discussion of the Pokemon Go phenomenon!
Next week we head off to San Diego Comic Con and hope to be dropping you a line from the convention! Until then, thanks for listening
As usual, our excellent intro/outro music is "We Are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
Enjoy our encore of Episode 4:
In this episode we explore modernized adaptations of great literature - both Shakespeare and Jane Austen - and alternative forms of communication and narrative. It's way goofier than it sounds. Also, we paraphrase our segment title "Great Adaptations" from Dickens and then never mention him. Sorry, Dickens!
There is also a little bit of singing. Very little. Don't worry about it.
As usual, our lovely intro/outro music is "We Are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
Indoorswomen will be back with all-new episodes in July, so stay tuned!
The one with the boys in it. Part II. Also known as "Indoorspeople"
We play our favorite game: Marry, Sex, Kill! Disney princes, anime characters, superhero girlfriends and... vehicles?
Stay tuned after that for our random recs and some outtakes from this and the previous episode! Listen to us mess up the intro again and again!
The one with boys on it.
In this episode the ladies play some of our favorite games with some special guests (Jen's brother and husband). These games include:
Scenarios - Meg leads Jen and the boys on a superhero's journey
Name that Flick - A special game for Meg (revenge for scenarios)
Fictional 5 - What 5 fictional historical/period figures are on your list? #AlexanderHamilton was popular
Gender Swap - Taking our favorite franchises and flipping the genders - Dune, Firefly, Silicon Valley, and The Fellowship of the Ring
Corrections: An autocorrect error led Jen to say Melissa McCarthy's name incorrectly. We love you, Melissa! #Donttrustyournotes (also, we know sometimes Wonder Woman can fly, but the version on our superhero team cannot)
Tune in two weeks from now for Part II - Marry Sex Kill, Random Recs, and some funny outtakes!
In this episode, you get the real "old days of radio" experience listening to Jen pick up her glass and drink from it and set it back down repeatedly. Ice clinking! It's like we are on Mad Men! Metal Desk + Podcast = Clink Amplification
We start out playing a new game we dub "Scenarios" - Essentially we each make up a series of geeky/pop cultural scenarios for the other to navigate. It involves Harry Potter and Star Trek!
For the main event, we have Smut Shaming or de-stigmatizing guilty pleasures. We have discussed before that we are adamantly against the concept of "guilty pleasures" - just like what you like and you should not be ashamed of it or made to feel shame because of it. In this segment, we express our love of fanfic and romance novels, defend them from shamers, and explain why they appeal. And, as promised, here are all the books we recommended during the show as well as some extras!
Fanfic book: Textual Poachers by Henry Jenkins
Jen's Romance Recs:
YA sports themed romance: Miranda Kenneally & Simone Elkeles
Urban Fantasy, no explicit sex (fade to black) - Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs

It is officially Star Wars day and we are celebrating with a tribute to The Force Awakens in particular and Star Wars in general.
Warning: this podcast contains spoilers for The Force Awakens (Episode 7 of Star Wars). If you have not seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
Join our lighthearted discussion of all things Star Wars including:
- What color would your lightsaber be?
- Favorite moments
- Favorite characters
- Special effects
- The Nostalgia factor
- Fan theories
- Looking forward to Rogue One?
- Strong Female Characters/Mary Sue/The Hero's Journey
We start out with a brand new game called "Fictional Five" that makes us feel weird about crushes on animated foxes. Remember, no such thing as a guilty pleasure!
Our main segment is about Superhero fatigue, in which we discuss both comic book movie/tv universes, but mostly Marvel! Superheroes - passe or here to stay? Superheroes have made the jump from comic book pages to screens big and small. Is the culture saturated? Who are our favorites? Who are we tired of? Also: if we had superpowers, what would they be?
Plus, tangents!
Spoiler: Meg and Jen are not particularly "Superhero Fatigued".
As always, our delightful intro/outro music is "We are Highscore" by Krackatoa
