When Radio which can transmit Morse code became available in America, it was a huge hit. The cities turned into chat rooms communicating with each other. The hobbyists were having a ball with all the information they could share and also the learning from other people. Soon the government moved into take over their radio sets and soon the technology fell in the hands of the corporate and soon became money making machine.
After almost 90 years, when Internet and blogging came into the scene something very similar happened.
