In the last episode of the first season, Emma and Smilla meet Jürgen Tiedje, Head of Unit, European Commission's Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Tiedje talks about the biggest challenges for future production processes. He addresses digitization as one of these challenges and highlights the importance of SMEs not being left behind. In addition, Tiedje addresses environmental challenges facing manufacturing. 

Emma and Smilla summarize this season of the podcast and talk further about Industry 5.0 and its three pillars – being human-centric, resilient and sustainable. They wrap up the season with quotes from the previous speakers in the podcast, where the speakers highlighted the importance of young people in manufacturing and the opportunities of the new generation. IMR is an independent industry-led research and technology organisation, with the goal to demystify, derisk and deliver new emerging technologies and new knowledge to enable industries to succeed within advanced manufacturing. Together with Lynch, Smilla and Emma discuss the importance of including the young generations in the manufacturing sector, and what possible challenges there are. Lynch emphasizes the need of new ways to attract the young people to work with the industry.

What is additive manufacturing? What possibilities does the technology have? What are the benefits? In this episode of the Industry 5.0 Leaders Podcast, we learn about additive manufacturing. Smilla and Emma meet Valeria Tirelli, the CEO of AIDRO, which is an Italian additive manufacturing company focused on metal 3D printing. Tirelli talks about her company, its vision and goals, and the future of manufacturing. In the second part of the episode, we meet the Young Manufacturing Leader, Alessio Fino, who is part of the Milan City Hub. He talks about his study group within YML, that studies the possibilities of additive manufacturing in space.

In today´s episode, Emma and Smilla meet David Romero, professor in advanced manufacturing at Tecnológico de Monterrey University in Mexico. Together they discuss issues like inclusive initiatives, future challenges for manufacturing, and the upcoming industry 5.0. Professor Romero has worked a lot with the concept of Operator 4.0, which describes the smart and skilled operator who performs cooperative work with robots as well as with machines. Professor Romero´s research is at the forefront of industry´s development, focusing on the human in production.
