October 7th 2024 marks the one-year anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel and the subsequent genocidal war that has unfolded. The Indypendent reflects on NYC protests of the event and takes listener call-ins.

We’ll be joined by Andrew Tilson, executive director of the Workers Unite Film Festival. This global celebration of labor solidarity kicks off October 18th at Cinema Village and will continue until October 30th with in-person and virtual events. Films range from student and professional projects telling the stories of struggle and activism for a better world.

We’ll get an update from a pair of New York City activists with long-time ties to the labor movement who are canvassing door-to-door for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan that will determine the outcome of this year’s presidential race.

The Starbucks Workers Union recently unionized its 500th store nationwide. And then it announced that a dozen more stores had filed to hold union elections including one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn. We’ll get an update on how this historic union drive is going when we speak with worker-organizer Evan Sunshine.
