Last week, Hurricane Oscar devastated the Cuban island destroying over 1000 homes and directly killing at least six people. As a result of the natural disaster, millions of people are still without power and bread rations have been reduced to the size of a bar of soap. Cuba has repeatedly appealed to the international community, and especially the United States to lift the embargo which has strangled the government’s capacity to trade in the international arena and by extension provide stability for its citizens. Yesterday, October 27th, activists gathered at Grand Central to demand that the U.S. Let’s Cuba Live! In road to the UN General Assembly vote to end the blockade against Cuba. With us now we have Danny Valdes, Co-Chair DSA's Cuba Solidarity Working Group to discuss how U.S. policy is contributing to the disaster in Cuba.

For our next segment, we turn to New York’s 10th congressional district in Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. Anti-war activists in that district are running an unorthodox write-in campaign against their incumbent congressman, Dan Goldman, who has been an all-in supporter of Israel’s war on Gaza. Joining us now to talk about this is Nicole Noble of New York-10 Neighbors for Peace, an antiwar groups which has been holding protests against Goldman for the past year.

While the nation’s eyes are on the White House, New Yorkers have another major election coming up. Early voting has already begun, and on November 5th, New Yorkers will vote on six ballot measures. The first will enshrine abortion rights into the state’s constitution while the five others would change the City’s charter. While city officials have condemned the measures as attempts to weaken checks and balances on the mayor, Adams has promoted the measures on the grounds of growing New York City’s business sector and strengthening law enforcement. Here to breakdown the ballot measures and what they might mean for New Yorkers in Councilmember Shahana Hanif.
