St. Louis Man Charged After Fatal Shooting Over Household Costs
After what police describe as a long build-up of frustration, a 54-year-old St. Louis man, Marvin Byrd, is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and felony resisting arrest. Investigators say he fatally shot his roommate as they headed to watch college football, then placed a Sig Sauer P320 on the ground and waited in his vehicle. Doorbell video and eyewitness accounts aided the case, and police recovered casings at the scene. Byrd allegedly gave conflicting statements and has a prior conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was arrested around 11 p.m. Saturday and is due in court September 15. A life ended over shared costs and party supplies, a grim reminder of how fast bad decisions can turn fatal.
