The UK economy grew by 0.7 percent in the first quarter of the year, surpassing forecasts, according to the Office for National Statistics. This faster-than-expected GDP increase has delivered a significant boost to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who credited Labour's policies for the economic performance. Reeves highlighted that the UK outpaced major economies including the US, Canada, France, Italy, and Germany during this period, citing strong consumer activity, real earnings growth, and robust services sectors such as retail and computer programming as key drivers. Despite the positive momentum, experts caution that some factors behind the uptick—such as increased government spending and pre-emptive export activity—may be temporary. While the economy shows resilience amidst global uncertainty and recent tax rises, Reeves acknowledged there is "more to do" to ensure sustainable growth for working people. AMD Launches EPYC 4005 Series Targeting Small Data Centers and Hosting Providers
AMD has introduced its latest EPYC 4005 Series processors, specifically designed for small data centers and hosting providers. Built on the EPYC 4004 architecture, the new processors retain the AM5 socket, enabling compatibility across various server form factors such as rack, blade, and tower systems. AMD highlights the series' balance of enterprise-grade features, modern infrastructure support, and competitive pricing, positioning it as a cost-effective solution for enterprise applications, virtualization, and always-on cloud services.
Industry analysts note that the EPYC 4005 Series, optimized for single-socket configurations, supports an efficient "scale-out" strategy for small and medium businesses. Benchmark results show the EPYC 4565P outperforms Intel’s Xeon 6300P by 1.83 times in performance, and the series competes directly with Intel and ARM-based Ampere Altra processors. While not primarily an AI processor, experts suggest the EPYC 4005 offers viable price-performance for basic AI and machine learning workloads.
Early adopters like Ishan Technologies have deployed the EPYC 4005 in Tier 3 data centers, citing its high performance, energy efficiency, and security. The new series aims to assist sectors such as BFSI, government, and manufacturing in meeting data localization requirements and accelerating AI-driven digital transformation. AMD has secured support from major partners, including Altos, ASRock Rack, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MiTAC, MSI, New Egg, OVHcloud, Supermicro, and Vultr, reinforcing its push into the small data center and hosting market. The UK economy expanded by 0.7% in the first quarter of 2025, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics. The GDP growth from January to March was driven by a 0.7% rise in services and a 1.1% increase in production, while construction activity remained flat. This marks a notable acceleration compared to the 0.1% growth recorded in the previous quarter, with GDP estimated to have grown 0.2% in March alone.
