Inkubator Dobre Glazbe

Aklea Neon, Damir Kedžo, pocket palma and Nellcote are just a few amongst those Croatian musicians who took a stand for equality and expressed their support for the George Floyd protests in the USA.

The music industry stopped all activities for the day on last Tuesday in order to support Blackout Tuesday. Discographers and all involved in the industry expressed their solidarity with the victims of hate crimes and discrimination. Discographers sent out their message: “Our responsibility is to, as guardians of culture, not only to unit in celebration of our wins, but support each other in times of loss as well.”

This week Incubator has the freshest news from the music scene. We`ll check out the best hits from HR Top 40 list and introduce you to Tumbao, an album by Cubismo and Jazz orchestra of HRT. We`ll listen to songs of our favourites; Franka, Rundek &Ekipa, ToMa and Kawasaki 3p.

Music is slowly but surely coming back! Soon we`ll be able to enjoy music at smaller concerts all over the country. We still don`t know when big music festivals will be making a comeback, but so far we know Exit festival is postponed until August 2020. The Corona crisis made the world realize just how important music is to us. During the lockdown so many people turned to music streaming platforms as well as the social media craze Tik Tok which is highly connected to music.

Album of the week is Dangerous Waters. Two weeks ago this record won the Porin music award for Album of the year as well as Porin for Alternative album of the year. Among the songs from J.R. August, this episode of Incubator brings you hits from this weeks HR Top 40 list. And like every week, we`ll walk you through all the news from the music scene. Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber took over the No.1 place on American Top Charts with their single "Stuck with U". The song is dedicated to all the high school graduates that won`t be attending their prom this year due to the Corona virus crisis. Ladies and gents` that is the "new normal". Different and special. 

This year`s Porin music awards were different and special as well. The awards were held for the 27th time but for the first time the performers were not on stage. Seventeen nominees performed their songs from different locations.

In this episode of Incubator, we talk a little bit about Porin and listen to the songs that won the award. Our album of the week is that of Josipa Lisac who was honored with Porin award "for life`s work". Once again American Top Charts are ruled by a country singer. Kenny Chesney surpassed Drake`s mixtape in sales across the states. And it happened in the same week we lost Little Richard and Betty Wright. Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber published a duet for charity, and the data shows that music is by far the most viewed content on Youtube. 

But we have a question for you; Have you been visiting Deezer or Apple Music lately? We highly recommend adding albums by Croatian musicians to your virtual music libraries. By doing that, not only do you help Croatian musicians, but you also get an excellent (no commercial) music listening experience, unlike the one provided by Youtube.

Across the globe, sales in music have been on an incline during the past 5 years, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Figures released in IFPI’s Global Music Report 2020 show total revenues for 2019 were US$20.2 billion. Streaming revenue is 56.1% of global total. Meaning more than half of revenue is due to streaming! We know streaming is accessible to Croatian music lovers as well. We get to enjoy music through streaming services Deezer and Apple Music, as well as over the radio. There we get to listen to the best radio show of Croatian music, Incubator of good music.

Three hours a day- that`s the amount of time spent listening to music nowadays. That means that a person listens to approximately 52 songs on average every day! Research shows that 89 percent of people use digital services to listen to music and in 2018, across the globe, we listened to the unbelievable amount of 4 billion songs on digital services.

The arrival of Apple Music in Croatia is big news. There you can find songs as well as other content. For example, you can listen to the new Rolling Stones song and check out the interview with Mick and Keith as well. They talked about the difference between the Stones and The Beatles along with stuff from everyday lives and their first new song in 15 years.

Today we`re talking about all the news coming from our music scene. We check out what`s new on HR Top 40 list, listen to bits from the album by Aljoša Šerić, lead singer of Pavel, called “Što ćemo raditi do kraja života?”. It was wonderful watching Band Aid of the digital generation – a virtual One world festival “Together at Home”. So much empathy, support for the doctors and the nurses, along with fantastic performances all in one place.  The festival was an eight hour marathon from which we`ll surely remember the excellent job done by Lady Gaga who organized the whole concert. The Rolling Stones`, Jennifer Hudson`s and Taylor Swift`s performances were memorable as well.

And what we fondly remember from our music history is definitely the work of Mišo Kovač. That`s why today we`re going through his album “Antologija”. We`ll listen to chosen singles from HR Top 40 and check out what`s new on the Croatian music scene. We`ll hear, among others, songs performed by Antonija Šola and Mario Roth, Kralja, Franka and Nina Basrić.

We`re getting reports from the States showing us that in midst of the current pandemic, streaming has been getting more and more popular. Thanks to that, Drake achieved new records and took over the No 1 on American singles Top Charts with the song “Tootsie Slide”. And that brings us to the biggest news this week - Croatian Discographers Association (HDU) has a new Deezer profile that will satisfy music lovers all over!

Musicians all over the world are sending the same message: We are in this together. They`re helping those in need and streaming their performances, charity shows and virtual festivals. We got to see a live performance of Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, AURORA and Alicia Keys. Taylor Swift sent out checks of 3000 dollars to her fans who needed it most in these hard times. Miley Cyrus started a daily talk show Bright Minded from the comfort of her home.

This week in Incubator we talk about a campaign started by Hrvatska diskografska udruga, called #PjevajmoZaZagreb. We`ll listen to Zdenka Kovačićek, and hear the new version of Target`s album called „Jedan dan u Zagrebu“. We`ll also check out the HR Top 40 list on which Damir Kedžo. LUCE, Nina Badrić and Vatra run the show this week.
