In recent weeks many people have been exposed to deeply disturbing information circulating online and in the media. For some, this has created anxiety, anger, compulsive researching, emotional numbness, or a feeling of psychological overload.

This episode is not an investigation of events or individuals.

Instead, we explore what happens inside the human nervous system when we encounter material that challenges our assumptions about the world.

I talk about:
• compassion fatigue and moral shock
• learned helplessness and why people feel nothing changes
• why the brain becomes stuck in research loops and doom-scrolling
• hyper-normalisation — how repeated exposure to disturbing content affects perception
• why people respond so differently (panic, obsession, denial, shutdown)
• how to stay engaged without burning out
• how to process difficult information without losing hope or stability

We also discuss a choice point many people are feeling right now: withdrawing into numbness and passivity, or consciously shaping the kind of world and culture we want to participate in.

The purpose of this conversation is grounding.
You can remain aware of the world and still protect your nervous system.

This episode is for anyone feeling overwhelmed by distressing information, social media exposure, or moral injury from current events.

You are not broken for how you’re reacting.
Your body is trying to metabolise something heavy.
