Suicide is the intentional act of ending one’s own life. It often stems from overwhelming emotional pain, mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, shame, or feelings of hopelessness.
The battle with suicide is a constant battle with thoughts that prompt or suggest to an individual that ending their lives is a solution to the deep emotional pain, numbness, agony or emptiness that they feel.
Self-harm involves deliberately injuring oneself as a way to cope with emotional distress or numbness. While it is not always a suicide attempt, it frequently indicates deep emotional turmoil and the need for help.
