Brian Behlendorf has a long history in open source going back to his co-founding of Apache. Today, he's the executive director of the Hyperledger Foundation. In this podcast, Brian takes us through some of his motivations in the early days of Apache, the tension between pragmatism and idealism in free and open source software, and why he's excited about distributed ledgers.

On August 21, the Linux Foundation announced the intent to form the Confidential Computing Consortium, a community dedicated to defining and accelerating the adoption of confidential computing. There have always been integration challenges with open source software, whether in pulling together Linux distributions or in mating program subsystems developed by geographically-distributed communities. However, today we're seeing those challenges writ large with the rise of large ecosystems on projects in areas such as networking and cloud-native computing.

Arpit Joshipura, general manager of networking at The Linux Foundation, takes us through the evolution of networking from its proprietary beginning. He describes the networking layers that make up the full stack and explains how technical capabilities like disaggregation, the software-defined phenomenon more broadly, and virtual functions have led to the big changes in the telco world and increasingly networking more broadly that we see today.

I worked for Bryan Che for my first seven years at Red Hat. We caught up with each other at the Open Source Leadership Summit in Sonoma. Bryan thought it would be interesting to share his observations and experiences on open source adoption in China, the China cloud market and cloud portability, and what it's like living in China.
