Peg (my aunt and former wife of Stephen Carlsen) sent me some papers she found in Steve's things. One of them was a correspondence between Steve and John Buck, with an email. I reached out and this is our conversation.

Steve's friend, Tim, shares his memories of what Steve was like as a coworker at Aldus, Adobe and as a friend. We also get to the bottom of one of the biggest questions I have, did Steve make the TIFF file himself, or did he have help?

On this episode of the Mr. TIFF miniseries, I talk to my aunt (Steve's wife for many years) and his 3 daughters about what he was like as a father and husband while working at Aldus and Adobe, how his desire to solve mathematical puzzles kept him so focused, how he enjoyed teaching math to his children, and how he started at Aldus in the first place. Other family stories have have nothing to do with technology are shared as well just because they're fun.

In this episode, I talk with Wâpakosîs (Donovan) who shared his view and stories of how he uses the TIFF file (geoTIFF specifically) to help his tribe in Canada work with the Canadian government to establish land use, treaties, and further help with Truth and Reconciliation. We go all over the place (had a wonderful time!), other topics include open source, blood quantum and cultural safety.

In the second episode of the Mr. TIFF mini-series, one Reddit commentator, Trevor, explains how he uses GeoTIFF files in GIS (geological information systems) to help people.

This is the first episode in a short series of episodes dedicated to exploring the creation of the TIFF file (tagged image file format), the creator, Stephen Carlsen, and the file's many uses.
