We’re continuing our series of behind-the-scenes podcasts where we show you what it’s like inside Appian Media during the creation of our brand new series 'Out of Egypt' and 'Lessons from the Land: The Exodus'. In this episode we’re talking with Nolan Houvener. He serves within our organization in a variety of roles and is currently editing on our next children's series. We’re going to talk with him about how that project is coming along and hear some more stories from production in Egypt and Jordan.

In this episode we talk with Ryan Sarver. He served as our ‘boots on the ground’ leader as the director of production for Out of Egypt. We talk about mishaps with equipment, where you should put your trash and generally have a good healthy reflection on our team’s time in Egypt and Jordan with Ryan.

Our team is deep in the editing cave as we sift through the footage from Egypt and Jordan for Appian Media’s 'Out of Egypt' docu-series. However, this project isn’t 100% shot on location. We talked with Jeff Dehut, the animator and art director for 'Out of Egypt'. He explains the creative process and walks us through several of the images that will be animated for this project on this episode of inRoads.

When the announcement of the discovery of the Mount Ebal Curse Tablet was made in 2022 and sent shock waves through the archaeological community. It was met by some with extreme excitement and, by many, with heavy skepticism. Dr. Scott Stripling, the Head of Excavations at the Associates for Biblical Research and his team, asserted that this folded lead tablet contained the earliest known "proto-alphabetic" Hebrew text. The inscription, which they date to the end of the Late Bronze Age (c. 1200 B.C.E.), is a legal text and curse that invokes the god Yahweh. The team believes the tablet to be one of the most important inscriptions ever found in Israel and one that could drastically alter our reconstruction of ancient Israel’s earliest history. But after waiting nearly a year for the official peer-review process to complete, many began to doubt the validity of the find. Until today...

The second most common question that we receive (beyond "how was your trip?"... see our previous episode) is "When will it be finished?" Stuart and Craig provide a post-production update on "Out of Egypt" and "Lessons From the Land: the Gospels" since our return from Egypt and Jordan and get brutally honest about our timeline, funding situation, and goals for these projects... and beyond!

They talk travel hiccups, missing video gear, the calming effects of food, the pros and cons of working with local crews, losing a micro SD card in the desert, and SO MUCH MORE!

During our time at this year's Christian Worldview Film Festival, we sat down with Doug Weiss, Director of Media Platforms for Christian Cinema and Dove.org and picked his brain about the ever-changing landscape of video distribution and why it's imperative for content creators to identify their audience before a single frame of video is shot. Doug also provides parents with resources to help them make educated decisions about their entertainment.
